314203 was on 1815 Cathcart Circle tonight (with new pantograph) 314214/216 was arriving into Glasgow Central of 1756 x Neilston 314207/210 were on Shields (pans up)
Would love to know how many operational units are left, how many are stored and how many are no longer with us now.
Serviceable units 314202/203/205/209/210/214/216 Stored Units 314204 - Eastleigh Works 314207 - Shields (might be available) 314208/211 - Yoker CS 314215 - Unsure location Scrapped Units 314201/206/212/213
203 certainly had a new pantograph but also sounded like it had a wheel flat when I was on it on Friday.
In all the years I travelled on 314s, I don't think I've ever heard a flat on one. Interesting that they are fitting a new pantograph considering the remaining units likely haven't too long to go.
I think 314 201 was originally slated to be set aside for potential preservation, now it's gone I'm not sure if Angel Trains even plan to set aside a unit for preservation now.
Which units are more likely to remain serviceable until December and which are on their last legs (wheels)?
The 507 end of 203 is a far nicer interior than the rest of unit/fleet pity the 507 interior and better seating designs similar to that of the 313s weren’t pursued.....probably too late now!
Kind of ironic it’s the crash damaged one that will be one of the last to go. Would I be right in saying that’s the only one that’s suffered anything more than a shunting bump?
208 and 212 got flooded at Glasgow Central low level upto window level if you can count that. There was also one derailed early on at Jordanhill.
Might just be a new pantograph carbon (ie the bit that makes contact with the wires) as they are relatively easy to replace and would likely be done so periodically through wear and tear anyway.
A pair of 314s had a nasty smash with a 303 in the tunnel at Bridgeton Central. I think it was 314210. The cab was badly damaged and the guard was unfortunately killed. There's a picture of it at Glasgow works, incorrectly captioned as 314203.
Wonder why they didn't just use one of the good units seeing as there are more serviceable units than diagrams.
314205 worked this evening's 19.05 service from Glasgow Central - Neilston 314202+314214 worked the 19.28 service from Neilston - Glasgow Central
ScotRail own the 314 fleet outright now. Seemingly part of the compensation from Angel for the HST delays. So it'll be up to ScotRail whether any get preserved I imagine.
203 & 209 on the Neilston express this evening. Hopefully at least one shall make it into preservation!
