I’m surprised they haven’t put on some 8 coach 380 workings, some services from Ayrshire in the morning peak are heavily filled. Even with 6 or 7 coaches.

There are a number of 7-car Ayr workings but 8 are difficult for operational reasons.

Is that because there aren't enough 385s to go around?

The 4 car 380 diagram that I know of forms the 1717 Glasgow Central to Edinburgh, which used to be a 4 car 156. I don't know what works the 0655 off Edinburgh but that used to also be a 4 car 156 so putting a 3 car 385 might be problematic.

You'd lose about 80-odd seats depending on the 156s used (they seat 140-150 depending on internal layout).

Presumably the ones sighted on Shields Depot earlier today. Still seem to see most of the remaining units out over the course of a week.

Would anyone happen to know when the next lot are meant to go for scrap/when the next ones are taken out of service and stored?

It'll be strange when they are eventually all gone, less variety in Central. However the stretch from Central - Paisley has got much more variety now.

Not as such. The 385s are effectively replacing the 314s in a way. So the net effect is no change in the number of classes.

Yep i got you , i see it as infill.

I suppose we'll lose the 158s soon too.

But then we've gained 320s, as I don't believe they were ever that common on high-level.

334s have also gone as well.

Soon well have 397s, but lose 350s and 185s and so it goes on...;)

I think 320 s only appeared in 2011 at Central.
Not seen a 334 in ages , one may of run on a Lanark service though

Definitely earlier, I've seen a photo of one in the original livery working out of High Level.

I haven't seen a 334 in High Level pretty much since the 380s were introduced.

There have been no booked 334 jobs into Central for a few years but there have been a couple of one offs in during disruption on the Argyle Line. The problem always being getting them moved afterwards.

I like the 334s but their lack of tables make them a pretty good shorter commuter train also. They also have lots of standing areas and are standard sized units compared to the 380s and 385s. If it wasn’t for the traction motors overheating they would be quite good to use on ex-314 territory.

More of Drivers not trained on them at Central ? Always thought they have the potential to pop up on any Electric service from High level in theory

Yeah was on a busy one yesterday , not a fan of the bays of 4 seating but layout better than 314a.318s and 320s

As there's been no booked 334 work from Central for a long time then Glasgow Central, Gourock, Ayr, Corkerhill and Shields drivers no longer have traction knowledge. The only drivers that could take a 334 into Central would be based at Motherwell, and not all Motherwell drivers have route knowledge for Glasgow Central, so they are best kept well well away.

I recall the introduction of the 334s on the Inverclyde and Ayr runs circa 2002/3. Anyone remember the vivid SPT livery? Decent units if memory serves me correctly.

Yes, apart from the initial teething troubles. Nevertheless I prefer them to 380s.

I’ve always liked the 334s I remember when they were new. They were good units and I always preferred them to the 318s. Was there not a capacity issue which meant the 334s couldn’t take over Ayrshire/Inverclyde exclusively?

I get them all the time now as I’m on the North Clyde Line. They are good trains but the layout instead with the seats can get a bit crammed and also the lack of tables annoys me. Other than that I really like them.

I believe when Central low level was closed at some point in 2017. A pair of 334s were booked on the 17:42 Carstairs service. It started from the high level, so diagrams were all over the place.

334s worked services from Glasgow Central High Level as recently as Summer 2018 during engineering works at Rutherglen.

Interesting . Prefer 380s to 334s , feels a step up from a inner suburban to an outer unit .
