Are we sure this is a 315 drag, as I see this Old Oak Depot move at 12:15 that seems like its a 345 directly after the 37 arrives at Ilford, but no move saying its to Kingbury, Rotherham or Newport for scrap?

Departing Ilford 5 minutes after arrival is heroic, especially as there is already a GA ECS at 12.15, so another schedule clash.

Look later in the day and you will find a 17.40 Old Oak Depot to Ilford EMUD, followed by a light engine to Wembley. Possibly swapping a 7 car 345 over perhaps?

Was an out and back to old oak depot currently heading back to ilford just now so was a crossrail unit swap as previously stated.

315858 dragged back Wolverton to Ilford for potential reinstatement for LO.

For just a moment I was thinking of 315858 possibly being converted for use on the Goblin route.

Maybe though I was just full of misplaced hopium - and the reality is that its going to be used on a service out of Liverpool Street

Don't doubt that 858 has been returned to Ilford.

When, where and by whom was 814 scrapped?

Unless it was scrapped on site at Wolverton, what loco moved it to the scrap yard?

I suspect it's still very much extant on the edge of Milton Keynes.....

I saw 08 629 in the Wolverton access road with a 315 and a 47 or 57 on it facing south this morning; would that have been this drag being prepared?

315858 is shown as pencilled in for the Ilford test trip on Friday, which would suggest potential passenger traffic from Monday if all is well.

It’s requirement looks to have been confirmed by 804 not having worked since GA threw it in the dirt in the Autumn and also has an iffy future.

Confirmed it will enter LO traffic next week as a temporary stopgap until the 710s are delivered to directly replace 813

No sign of 315858 in service with LO yet, but they did have all their other available 315s in service on Thursday 07/02. The 315s have been worked a great deal harder than the 317s under LO, and it's not going to get any easier for them, especially if 315804 has also gone for good.

On the GE side, the off-peak service on 07/02 had more 315 sets out (6 eight cars) than 345s (5 units) which was nice to see, especially after earlier posts suggested they were becoming scant outside the peaks.

Its possible ARL are waiting for some motor works to be complete, from what I understand two needed replacing and are due sometime this month...If it was out and about it would carry a multiple only restriction, limiting what you can do with it.

Normally there are eight pairs of 315s in the peaks. Two stable at Chingford off peak, two pairs run all day and the other four split into singles. There are five pairs of 317s. Only one pair is booked out all day. However, there are frequently six pairs of 317s with a 315 on the Upminster shuttle instead of a 317. The 317s can turn up on any diagram, even running at weekends.

Romford - Upminster is now a class 315. MTR Crossrail drivers from Ilford depot work the branch, so this avoids any difficulties in maintaining class 317 competence.

315s are more suited to LO’s all stations work. Ideally the 315s withdrawn from the Shenfield service would have replaced the class 317s, but with 710s coming soon (or not) renegotiating all the ROSCO contracts may not have been possible.

Does this mean there are now six pairs of 317s booked? Presumably replacing one of the two 315 pairs that stable between the peaks?

Presumably so, otherwise they would be diagramming 100% availability for the 315s which would be ‘optimistic’, and even more so with 804 and 813 dud.

Oddly when the 315s it will feel a shame, the "Magic Trains" as i called them when i was younger, given the only Rail Routes i was taken on was Shenfield Metro routes and LTS Rail (Using class 302, 310 and 312s) so as a kid seeing doors that opened by pressing a button was seen as a magical train compared to the slammers on the LTS route though some benefit with the 345s is the first train down to London on a damp day doesnt feel so stuffy as it did with the 315s with no windows open for ventilation as they do get stuffy inside do the 315s as do all trains when it wet and no fresh air inside

That would have been back in the days when they had the rubber buttons operating air-controlled doors. Cue no end of confusion when people don't realise you have to hold the button down for a couple of seconds otherwise the door closes again. Glad they replaced that mechanism on the 315s, it's odd that the 317s never received the same treatment.

Thank you for this well formatted list. If only there was a way to pin it to the first page.

I thought 858 had been expected to enter service on Monday but I haven't seen it yet so that makes a lot of sense.

827+859 I thought were withdrawn end of September when the leases expired. Not seen either for months.
