Detraining a 200m long train in 2.5 minutes is a pretty good feat.
In an emergency turnback situation it might be a bit optimistic but remember under normal circumstances Paddington is one of many stations and won't have the proportional loadings normally associated with a London terminus, especially not at peak time.

Also bear in mind the metro nature of the interior and 3 sets of doors per vehicle. If a 130m tube train can detrain, change ends and set off in 90 seconds, 2m30 for Crossrail seems perfectly doable.

I'm thinking more about when there is disruption to the gwml requiring all services to terminate at paddington particularly if passengers are not planning to get off there

Detraining a 200m long train in 2.5 minutes is a pretty good feat.

That 2.5 minutes includes arriving, stopping, opening doors, moving out any passengers that didn't realise they had to alight, checking there is no remaining passengers, closing doors, and vacating platform.

Good feat is bit of an understatement, especially if have to explain need to alight to someone sitting engrossed in a book etc, or wake up a sleepy passenger.

Frequently done on LUL in less time, busier locations and proportionally similar trains (time vs length; accepting 345s are significantly longer). No reason it can’t be achieved on Crossrail.

The current version of the signalling software configuration is mentioned in the Suplimentary Agenda for the TfL Programmes & Investment Committee meeting which took place today.

3.9 The PD+11 signalling software configuration is now being used in the Central Operating Section allowing for further signalling testing. Approval has been received to use the software for testing all areas of the railway including using single train, multi-train and close-headway, as well as with multiple trains running across the transition boundaries. Four ‘point releases’ of software updates are planned for PD+11, providing the opportunity to bring forward any necessary bug fixes to enter Trial Running on the best footing.

TfL must be bankrupting themselves with compensation being paid to Heathrow airport given the price of the hex tickets that would need refunding.

Given Heathrow Express manage with single 332s on Saturday, there probably aren't that many people travelling on them. It doesn't seem plausible that delay compensation between operators is based on ticket sales in any case.

There is another update from Mark wild on the TfL web site. Mostly about safety and stations.

http://content.tfl.gov.uk/navin-shah-montly-update-06-mar-2020.pdf

It does contain one quote which might be of intest on this thread:

Driver training continues on the Heathrow Spur in preparation for Paddington to Heathrow services using new class 345 Elizabeth line trains (Stage 2B), this is planned to be introduced this spring.

Anyone know which ones are being used?

345053 just failed prior to its planned working of 9T41 2218 London Paddington to Hayes & Harlington. Empty to Old Oak Sidings and back to pick up the next working.

345054 to work 9T45 2248 London Paddington to Hayes & Harlington.

Yesterday I noticed that the brightness on one of the internal displays kept going up and down on the way from Liverpool Street to Stratford. Not sure if this was some sort of short circuit or some sort of auto-brightness feature linked to the outside light but it was very stupid, as it kept changing about once every two seconds!

Sounds like a fault, I've not seen that before.

More testing planned this Sunday. From the TfL weekend news email received today.

On Sunday 15 March:
  • There will be no service between Paddington and Ealing Broadway between 09:00 and 23:00. This is due to Crossrail and Network Rail testing. Use alternative Tube routes to Ealing Broadway or Heathrow. Tickets are also valid on Great Western Railway services between Reading and Paddington
  • A reduced service will run between Ealing Broadway and Hayes & Harlington between 09:00 and 23:00. This is due to Crossrail and Network Rail interface testing

I was on one of these a couple of days ago and feel sure that the spoken 'next station' message had changed from "this is the train to xxx" to "this is a train to xxx"

the use of the word 'a' instead of 'the' sounded much better

Is that not just using a truncated version of the 'This is a TfL rail service to' ? They haven't quite got the cut of that right, it sounds a bit disjointed.

The Full Length Units should start appearing out to Reading in passenger service next week. Not sure on an exact day at this stage.

*Update - should be 2 FLU Reading diagrams from Monday 23rd March. These are in addition to the Hayes services.

Will the broader slowdowns and reductions also hinder Crossrail testing; or will the sparser GWML service allow for increased testing activity?

Looking at iris tiger along the GW line and Railcam for Slough today, it does appear that a large number of the western-side workings are being covered by 9-car units now.

By my reckoning the timetable requires five units of which four are showing as 9-car and one as 7-car today.

While the resolution on the railcam feed isn't perfect for taking numbers, it does seem to be possible if trains are caught at the side of the frame. Accordingly, I have just seen:
345060 working 9P48 1052 Reading to London Paddington
345053 working 9R48 1043 London Paddington to Reading

I'll have to see if I can catch the others. 345060 not reported in service previously (but reports of course have been lacking).
