There is a bit more detail about the approval for use at the airport (ie ETCS) in this article:

https://www.railwaygazette.com/uk/crossrail-emus-approved-for-etcs-operation/56488.article

Anyone know any more about what the non-conformance comment is about?

Available here: https://orr.gov.uk/__data/assets/pd...uthorisation-class-345-ccs-tsi-2020-05-06.pdf

Office of Rail and Road said:
Network Rail Summary of Compatibility (NRSC) shall be issued in accordance with RIS-8270-RST issue 1 prior to trains being put into use.

This explains why they're not carrying passengers yet.

Yes, same as Monday - another 345 vs 360

Same diagram as before, ie 0532, 0703, 0833, 1003, 1133 from Paddington all terminating at Hayes & Harlington instead of Heathrow.
It was bizarrely listing Heathrow Terminal 5 as it's destination blind even though it terminated at Hayes does it pick up it's destination based on the timetable or something?

There was a class 345 sitting in Hayes platform 5 today with terminal 5 as a destination the announcement about the cancellation between central and terminal 5 was more trains than usual needing repairs.

A 345 out again today on the same diagram (0532 / 0703 / 0833 etc from Paddington terminating at Hayes & Harlington) so whatever the class 360 problem is, it is taking a while to resolve.

The unit for 9P12 0622 Reading to London Paddington appears to have failed as well so 7-car 345022 is out in its place. Other 345s today through Slough have been 053/054/028/027.

Three 360 units are out today first thing.

Didn't last long:

2T31 0833 London Paddington to Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 and return cancelled

A 345 coming out of Old Oak Depot for the 1003 departure which is terminating at Hayes & Harlington.

I don't know if it's deliberate but the social distancing message is being played back too slowly on the train

An apparent problem at Maidenhead Carriage Sidings this morning seems to have prevented the start of service with units being sent out from Old Oak Depot instead. First three TfL Rail trains from Reading cancelled.

Any word yet if the 345s are operating the Heathrow service?

They aren't - still 360s - indeed it looks like they have managed to find three 360s to run the half-hourly service today.

The open data sites, while obviously not a definitive source, show that the TfL Rail service to Heathrow is currently planned to be run from Old Oak Common Emu Depot (ie using 360s) until at least the end of May.

Yes, Old Oak Depot appear to have sent out 7-cars 022, 047 and 051 to cover for non available 9-cars this morning. They have then been replaced by 9-cars from Maidenhead Carriage Sidings at Reading and gone back empty to Old Oak Depot.

It appears from open data sites that, tomorrow, the full TfL Rail service should run between London Paddington and Reading (with Heathrow still half-hourly and no Hayes shuttles). It will be interesting to see whether this is all 9-car or a mix of 7-cars and 9-cars.

Is the XR T5 service today running with 360s or 345s?

360s as it will be for a while yet.

Reading services were 7 9-cars and 2 7-cars out for start of service this morning

345017 9P08 0551 Reading to London Paddington (7-car)
345064 9P10 0603 Reading to London Paddington
345060 9P12 0622 Reading to London Paddington
345027 9P14 0645 Maidenhead to London Paddington
345053 9P16 0652 Reading to London Paddington
345054 9P18 0705 Reading to London Paddington
345037 9R12 0613 London Paddington to Reading
345007 9R14 0628 London Paddington to Reading (7-car)
345021 9R16 0643 London Paddington to Reading

The unit which worked 9R18 was a substitution after a unit failed on 9P10 at Ealing Broadway.

9R52 and 9R56 were 7-cars 345005 and 345051

Anyone know why 345002 is currently on the move from Old Dalby to Old Oak please? Some kind of modifications, as per the document above?

It was one of the units with lots of extra test equipment fitted so this is probably just having had all the equipment removed followed by some limited testing to check everything is ok and is now being delivered again.
The mods in the document above are pretty much all software apart from 1 item.

A class 345 appears to have been sent from Old Oak Depot to take over one of the 360 diagrams with effect from the 1302 London Paddington departure (9T67) which is terminating at Hayes & Harlington.

The 360 is going to the Heathrow Express depot having arrived on 9P57, the 1255 arrival from the Airport.

Low 360 availability again.

According to Richard Clinnick in RAIL 905, the 345s have been cleared for service to Heathrow with the ETCS Level 2 overlay system.
