some of the sets that have been scrapped have had massive bits of rust/corrosion on them unfortunately, the salt water from the tunnel as well as doing 186mph on a daily basis takes it toll.

I remember 3013/3014 pulling into the platform adjacent to the Searcy Bar where I was having a drink and being struck by the state of the bodywork up close. I wasn't entirely surprised that the unit was selected from withdrawal a few of months later...

Indeed, the decision on what sets stay and what sets go comes down to mileage, maintenance and repair costs and also exams on the sets

The fact that Eurostar have (with the exception of the recently refurbished sets) spent nothing on the bodyshells over the last 20 years doesn't help. None of the scrapped sets have ever had a repaint.

Based on the limited space at Kingsbury and frequency of movements, it would take around five or six weeks and even then, the powercars seem to hang around for a quite a while after the carriages have been processed. I would imagine that the carriages have to have their interiors gutted and things like hydraulic fluids, air conditioning systems etc. drained before the recyclable bodywork is pulled apart.
Ahh, because of that. Cheers :)

(my photo) this was 3209/3210 at St Pancras Intl back in May 2017, shows the state and some of the damage/corrosion to the bodywork on the side of powercar 3209

I've always been surprised that Eurostar allowed trains on such a prestigious route to get into such a state! I've commented previously on the grubby external appearance of the Eurostar fleet (especially the front ends) and as a regular user of their services I see the 374s are going the same way...

Is Temple Mills the only place where they go through the carriage washer?

Unfortunately it certainly seems that Temple Mills is the only place where the sets will go through the washer, yet even that dosnt exactly seem to make them look much better, I agree that the E320s are going the same way in terms of dirt and cleanness (even the newest of the fleet).

The front ends of the 373s are definitely getting more tatier though especially the front end of 3224, obviously these sets work very hard every day although keep in mind they are also very hard and complicated trains to maintain and look after.

*my photos* photos showing set 3231/3232 at Temple Mills in June last year awaiting scrapping along with the stored coaches before they were moved by road to Kingsbury for scrapping

*not the best of photos as I was passing on a GA 317 on a Stratford bound service**

Interesting to see that the doors on the carriages have been removed and plated over. Were these in long term storage at Temple Mills?

I wonder if anyone was able to get a picture of the road movement to Kingsbury?

These were indeed in "Long Term" storage at Temple Mills prior to scrapping mate, as for photos of them on the road heading for the scrap yard, I don't think anyone managed to unfornatly? think their move to Kingsbury was done overnight or "in secret" (sounds strange to say it like that but im happy to be corrected).

I think you're right to the night move as I've not seen any photographic evidence of them being hauled away by lorry...

If you look closely, the doors are actually plated over with sheet metal with the exception of the buffet/restaurant coach...

Ah yes I see it now. There is also a door still intact on the middle vehicle (with conventional rather than Jacobs bogie) which coupled with the buffet coach (and the fact that the plate blends in very well with the paint at the top and the fence at the bottom!) was what threw me.

3223/3224 was due to be on the next move to Kingsbury after 3201/3202 but was cancelled, 3201/3202 could well have been the last move to Kingsbury, if there any more going for scrap the next one won't be untill December at the earliest.

Been looking at booking a trip on one of the original unrefurbished 373s but you can’t view the seat plan until after booking and not sure you can distinguish an original to an e300. Anyone know where and timings they are still used? I believe they are deployed on Disneyland and Marseille routes. But one to Paris or Brussels would be better. And i

Last week I travelled to Paris on the e320s. And did see 3224 at Paris looking a bit tired but they bring back so much happy memories!

The refurbished and unrefurbished 373s share diagrams, and as such unfortunately it usually isn't known which services the unrefurbished sets will be on until on the day.

The refurbished 373s have the same seating layout as the unrefurbished ones, except that they have the inferior 374 type seats in place of the comfortable originals.

As regards 373 diagrams - the below were officially valid until late July, but I have been told by someone in Eurostar that the current diagrams are pretty much the same. Hopefully someone with access to the information will be able to post a more up to date version. Until then, please treat the below as an indication rather than a definitive list:

So does this mean Eurostar are retaining 9 373s instead of 8, as 3209/10 was also supposedly due to get refurbished. Also, part of me hopes 3223/4 gets refurbished as it was my favourite.

3215/3216 is indeeed the 9th 373 to be retained and will eventually be refurbished mate, 3209/3210 is still away and undergoing refurbishment (to my knowledge), more sets may also be retained + refurbished, at the moment it isn’t clear if any more will move to Kingsbury for scrapping or if any more will be retained.
