Hi guys! I have heard that some of the Class 379s can only couple to another particular unit at one end only. Does anyone know why this might be? Seems a bit strange to me.

Thanks guys!

News to me and I drive them. Unless there is a fault with a particular unit. They can be a bit temperamental at times splitting and normally work generally as 8 cars anyway on the airports. It's the origami internal doors that take the time lol

Oh ok. I would love to drive a 379. :p My friend Dan who works on the 379s at Ilford depot says that some of 379s can only couple from one end to particualr units.

I think there was a restriction on certain units coupling to others at one time whilst a software upgrade was taking place.

That made me smile :D When they were new a driver manager showed us all that was involved. I lost count how many locks had to opened or closed and how many keys were involved.

Yeah I only signed them in Feb and not had to couple/uncouple one yet, there is certainly a knack to it and yep they only have internal doors for the trolly. Would of been better without and a buffet/snack bar in my opinion.

Yep software issue is probably the likely issue when there was one. Yeah they are nice to drive, comfy seating position and good braking even if the regen braking doesn't always give the smoothest of stops lol

I used to drive these units, and any software incompatibility issues would prevent a unit being coupled at either end.

Whenever there was a software update rolled out, those units that had received the update could be identified by a sticker with a blue cross in the secondman's windscreen. Units with the update were banned from coupling to units still awaiting the update in case of any incompatibilities until such time as the entire fleet had been updated.

I am not aware of any general issues that would prevent a Cl379 coupling at one end only.

There was one yesterday the "wrong way round" in the middle of a morning Cambridge 12 car service. So no problem there EXCEPT that due to some sort of fault the inter unit doors had to be left closed. We were told this by the driver several times!
