Class 399 Tram Train Derails on Day 1 of Service in Sheffield

    On one of the pictures I saw, there was a traffic light out of use sign attached to the lights. I wonder what bearing that had on this incident. Also how does the tramway deal with this, stop/check/proceed at caution.

    The traffic lights were working normally at the time of the incident but had been turned off after the incident due to the truck taking one set of lights out. Numerous witnesses interviewed on local radio said the truck jumped a red light and hit the tram.

    Here's an image taken just after it happened and before the traffic lights had been switched off.....

    Stop just shy of the junction, a good ring of the bell, slow creep forward in the case of this junction as the road on the right in the direction of Meadowhall is heavily obscured. 5mph crawling so as to stop on a dime if an idiot chances this. If not already aware, alert control to warn other drivers.

    The traffic lights were working at the time of the incident; the sign was placed there (very quickly) afterwards.
