Just seen a post on Twitter from someone called "MrTimDunn", in his tweet mentioning @LNER:

Amazing HST Intercity 125 news! Just heard from
@LNER
that they’re repainting a full 7+2 set (inc 43402, world speed record holder & coaches!) in British Rail blue/yellow/white livery for charity farewell tour of LNER network. 18-21 Dec. Special tix will open to public soon...

Link to tweet at https://twitter.com/MrTimDunn/status/1197145140277784581

18 Dec: Edinburgh to Aberdeen
19 Dec: to Newcastle via Inverness
20 Dec: Newcastle to Leeds via York
21 Dec: Leeds to KGX

LNER haven't confirmed anything yet but considering MrTimDunn has mentioned @LNER in the tweet I'm guessing it's probably true.

If so it would be a fantastic send off...

A lovely gesture and it'll be well worth seeing, bit of a pity from a photography point of view that it'll be running on days of the year with the fewest hours of daylight!

One of the most leisurely farewell tours? (one day to cover Newcastle to Leeds!)

Could easily be done in two days (day 1 -> Edinburgh - Aberdeen - Inverness - Edinburgh, Day 2 -> Edinburgh - London via Leeds).

Yeah it does seem a somewhat leisurely itinerary.

Newsletter 342 from UK Railtours:
LNER will cease to operate HSTs on 16 December and they will be marking their departure with four days of celebration along their route, in conjunction with UK Railtours. It all began on 23 July 1977 when, under the auspices of our ancestral organisation the Lea Valley Railway Club and the Princes Trust, we ran the very first passenger-carrying HST on the ECML, so we will have been involved from the very beginning to the very end. More news in a future newsletter in just a few days’ time.

I mean I would expect that it won't just go directly from Newcastle to Leeds (for instance) in the final analysis but it could just simply be that those who are organising it know their start point and end points but don't know what they'll be doing in the middle. After all it's not LNER that's announced it yet...

Judging by an email received from UK Railtours, they are the organisers

I suspect hotel bookings for that Wednesday in Aberdeen has increased in the last couple hours

Shame they won’t be in ‘Swallow’ livery with a valenta at either side!

I'm not sure that UK Railtours involvement changes anything about my previous statement that it seems likely the start and end points will be correct but that the direct route may not be the one chosen? I could be wrong of course but it just strikes me as unlikely!

It wouldn’t surprise me if the third day had a more convoluted route than it first appears....

43402? Which two power cars are the speed-record holders? I hope that the National Railway Museum and/or the 125 group can obtain them for preservation.

Hotels in Aberdeen are quite cheap at the moment - anywhere from £20 to £30 on booking.com with free cancellation if you change your mind!

My suggestion at the moment is that people wait for LNER confirmation....

I can see a lot of fields along the line of the tour route being occupied by camera-wielding enthusiasts... and a lot of angry farmers telling them to "get orf moi land".

As the above tweet was from me, Tim Dunn (and yes, I noted the number typo as soon as I'd hit "tweet"; there's no edit function) I can confirm it is genuine. A number of media, including me, were briefed yesterday and asked to spread the word. UK Railtours will be selling tickets for this charter soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's ,at least, Newcastle Carlise Skipton Leeds, and it might be more than that

Is there any particular reason for the set being 2+7, rather than say the original 2+8 or even a full LNER 2+9?
