Good news!
I have today received official confirmation that the SERA have
secured Class 501 Driving Trailer Brake Second for preservation from
the MOD sea port at Marchwood.
21 years since the last 501 units ran in passenger service and there
is finally a member of the class secured for preservation. The
vehicle is to be moved to Coventry Electric Railway Centre in late
April.
The 501 project was started nearly nine years ago back when the SERA
was called MATEP. The aims of the project were then to get the last
vehicles to make up a three car unit. After such a long wait for the
vehicles to become available we are now a third of the way there.
SERA remains committed to the original aim. More work is needed to
get a suitable trailer vehicle and the motor coach is hopefully
being made available to us soon. Ful details of the share scheme can
be found at http://www.emus.co.uk/p501.htm
Best Wishes
