Today I'm positive I heard an unidentified 56 heading westbound this afternoon with small ballast/spoil wagons. It returned around the back of 8pm. Has this been the first 56 around the sub since the 66's displaced them?
Apologies as this is a bit O/T, but how often do trains use the Seafield / Leith line? I worked in Seafield around 20 years ago and I think the line was somewhat overgrown then, I don't remember ever seeing a train on it. I'm quite surprised it's still in use, but maybe new uses and traffic patterns have developed since then. There was a Colas Rail 56 with a rake of wagons at Seafield (leith docks) at about quarter to 5 on Saturday afternoon. Possibly this?
That might be the culprit, although I wasn't aware of the charter from Mossend to Inverkeithing until Harbon 1 posted up a reply. There was a Colas Rail 56 with a rake of wagons at Seafield (leith docks) at about quarter to 5 on Saturday afternoon. Possibly this?

I think I read that these spoil trains might work this weekend too (Carlisle NY - Portobello Jn).
Not particularly rare to see 56s on the sub. There was also a rail drop last Saturday ...

returned Monday morning (56090 and 56094)
Off the top of my head, I can remember two t-n-t'ing an engineers earlier this year and one being dragged from Grangemouth when a 70 first went round the sub last year.
I suspect that they might become more common as Colas have sold their 60s.
GBRF.To who?
GBRF.
Which would make them useless for the sleepers.Interesting, cheers. If only they had ETH, great for the sleepers apart from the low top speed.
I'll listen out for any 56 activity this weekend, going O/T a little, around half 5 yesterday evening a test train T'n'T by a pair of 37's went around the sub toward Slateford Jcn.
Thanks, I'll keep a listen out for them, and may if possible, hang out the window to see them pass by! May also try a visit to Millerhill if I can manage to fit it in!Found 'em. About 17:15 and 19:00 on the Sub on Saturday if all goes to plan.
