Are the class 67s currently used on any freight services in the UK? Have they ever been used on any freight (other than the obvious mail trains)?

Judging from this they seem to be extremely rare on anything except ECS and passenger moves, however I'm sure I remember seeing one on a car train once, does anyone know is this is possible?

Entirely. For a time they used to take cartics for repair.

Freight isn't as rare as you think, at least in the early days. Plenty of them saw use on enterprise services and the odd departmental as well.

If you click back on the link there is a shot further down showing a 67 working such a train.

edit: I may be incorrect here, I think the covered wagons are more likely for the transport of finished steel products.

Years ago, I used to regularly see a 67 pass through Cambridge on a Southampton - Ely (Potters) intermodal working.

They are as weak as kittens at slow speed. I was at Fawley one day when a triple headed train arrived from Eastleigh, simply to get the whole shebang moving.
Another time I had a double headed car train in Soton Eastern Docks - same reason. (And had to split them and recouple as the neck at 38/39 Berth was too short!)

I've just been ploughing through the journals I kept when I was working.

Basically, a sign of stress in the Motive Power Control.

A pair of class 67's worked a coal train from Imminghan to either Cottam or West burton (I forget which) a few years ago.

Regular performers on the Arpley - Peak Forest - Arpley wagons for maintenance runs - not a heavy duty run, in fact sometimes no wagons at all.

I wouldn't say regular is quite right. Think the last time they ran anything in/out of Peak Forest that wasn't a light engine on route learning duties was August last year, at least that's the last time I remember seeing them:

Happy to be corrected if not!

My apologies for the misleading caption for the photo above. The caption should have read -

'67005 on unidentified wagons at 12.53 on 18/03/2009. Photo taken from footbridge linking platform 6 to platform 5 at Bletchley Station.'

Hope this clarifies matters........

A few years ago I saw class 67s working freight through Acton Bridge. It was only a short freight of what I think were acid tanks.
