Any news on entry into service? At the beginning of last month various sources were saying 4 to 8 weeks, so should be getting close by now?

I think these 4 movements Norwich - LivSt - Camb - LivSt - Norwich were a 745 overnight, can anyone confirm? If so I think they are the first on West Anglia, and ran via Hackney Downs. But looks like did not run to Stansted Airport, so still none been there
It was 745005 and it ran to Stansted Airport on the northbound journey instead of the southbound hence the 40 minute delay getting to Cambridge.

Saw 003 hauled through Needham Market at 13:30 today by a 37. I assume it must have failed on a training run.

So 12 cars 18 bogies.

What is the advantages and disadvantages of using articulation?

What is the advantages and disadvantages of using articulation?
+ less cost, less overall weight thus more efficient, less maintenance, less elevated space required on low-floor trains
- higher axle weight so greater load on track thus potentially higher track access charges

Another planet...
Also, more stable in the event of a derailment and less chance of a coupling failure (though those are rare anyway there was the 150 that fell out with itself near Leeds a while back).

Why are some doors offer from centre?

I'm not sure if it's universal to FLIRTs but on ours it means we can get longer trains into shorter platforms.

I believe a 4 car 755 only needs a slightly longer platform than a 3 car 170 to fully accommodate all the doors

Quick glimpse of a 745 on a test on Friday afternoon, just about to depart for Norwich. Moments after these photos, the LED display changed to "Norwich" and the train glid away.

I'll miss the old slam door stock, but to think these might soon be in service is very exciting.

I do find it curious that they have uncovered couplers- given that (at least once in service) they'll only be used occasionally for rescue and any shunting required with the power off.

The norm for railway rolling stock (especially non-high-speed trains) is to have the coupler uncovered, not the opposite.

Why are they replacing Stanstead Express 4 car 379s with 12 car 745s?? Do they really need to triple their capacity?
