Are drivers not crew?
So it’s crew training then by your definition.

Either way EMR driver training is underway and has been since last week starting at Old Salby.

At this current moment people who drive trains for EMR are currently training and undertaking practical handling of the units.

So there’s two units out today? Just passed one at Harpenden and the other turned back at Bedford? Maybe things are better than we thought!

Well only if the people who are being trained to do the training are actually going to drive the trains on a daily basis as well
Are they driving trains today? So they are train drivers.

One will be driver train the trainer training runs.
The other will be a standard Hitachi test train.

So they are "train the trainer" runs instead of "crew training" runs?

This all feels a bit pointless. Maybe we could leave it there and move on now.

Thanks :)

Presumably the set you saw was 810008 (likely on the 5Q4x sequence as per the last two days) - does anyone know what the other set out today was? Thanks.

Half of the training has now been completed for the ‘train the trainer’ team. This is composed of the initial training instructors and the training team at the academy.

All being well, the rest of the trainers will have completed their handling training next week.

When agreements are in place, and a training plan ready to go, hopefully the ‘daily’ drivers can get started.

They’ve also completed half of the testing for changing from electric to diesel and vice versa at the set points along the route. This will include the section right up to Wigston, so it’s planned to run them on electric as much as possible.

Stopping positions/stop boards need amending due to clashes between wheelchair ramp and station infrastructure.

Thanks for a comprehensive update - seems that things are really gaining traction (excuse the pun) and no doubt we’ll be seeing the Krytens (see posts 3645-3650 for context behind that name) along the MML with increasing frequency.

Unfortunately still no progress that we know of. Still meetings to take place with EMR and Aslef and still no rest day agreement , so unless they get their skates on I can’t see much training for the general driver grade.

It’ll then be the training instructors that teach the driving Instructors that teach the drivers, but as baz962 says, the drivers haven’t heard anything at all yet. Let’s see how next week goes I suppose.

Can’t they temporarily cancel one path out of Nottiingham or Sheffield between 10am and 4pm and after 7pm and double up to 10 car on the other path to create the capacity for training?

Not sure if this has been picked up on here or elsewhere; however EMR’s Air Quality Improvement Plan states 810 introduction from December 2025: https://www.eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk/media/4062/download?inline
Current strategy includes the committed introduction of Class 810 Bi
-mode trains from Dec 2025

It didn’t run yesterday as planned as the GBRF driver didn’t sign the traction! You couldn’t write it… EMR staff left high and dry waiting for it to collect them!

Do you know why that is?
Because it is still a hitachi train that hasn’t been handed over to EMR.

And most likely it has done what EMR wanted so far with their driver trainers.

What didn’t run?
There was a training run scheduled for yesterday (not sure what unit was booked). Driver was taxied up from Wales on rest day work to take the train when he said he didn’t sign it, test run was cancelled and EMR staff left at Melton.

Strange, as the unit they were using for training runs, 810008, had the path booked in since at least Sunday to move back to Merchant Park yesterday.

It was a shambles apparently. 7 of them left there on the platform and driver taxied back to Wales…

Drivers are being sent to test track who sign 80x stock, but the 81x fleet is not included within that group
Sticky digits but the project treats 81x as new stock not the same e as 800 801 802 803 805 807

From looking at RTT for today, looks like a 810 went from Old Dalby to Etches Park this morning, spent the day there and returned this evening.
