Class 86’s in the Hitchin - Cambridge line

Several times in the late 80’s I saw class 86’s working over the Hitchin to Cambridge section on diverted trains from the G.E.

Does anyone have any photos of these workings over that line please?

I believe these were the services from the North to Harwich diverted

I saw a picture the other day from the early 1990s of a 47 hauled Liverpool St-Cambridge train diverted via Canonbury, ECML and Royston.

I thought AC locos were prohibited Royston-Cambridge anyhow?

I recall reading somewhere that a single 86 loco was permitted north of Royston, when operating light engine only.

Yes, all of which is true according to the Sectional Appendix from that period. The 86s must’ve had special dispensation on those days that they used the line.

The OHLE feed has since been ungraded in recent years.
