G'day everyone,

Staying at my Mum's in Derbyshire tonight and saw the nightly Leeds - Southampton Freightliner operated Intermodal run past at around 21.40. Nothing unusual about that except that tonight behind the usual class 66 there was a Colas class 70! Can anyone offer an explanation for this?

Kind regards,

Richmond Commuter!

They undergo heavy maintenance at Midland Road TMD (Leeds);
the Southampton liners are used to get them to/from Eastleigh.

Colas have also hired 70s to Freightliner in the past. The loco you saw was 70809 by the way.

I imagine Freightliner are short of traction right now - given that they are loaning Class 90s for the sleeper.
