There are plenty of free London Underground apps available for Andriod and iOS, many of which include Live Departure Boards, all sorts of maps (the same as those on the TfL website, including the excellent Oyster Rail Services map), as well as journey planning features.

I use "London Tube Master" on Andriod, which I assume is also available on iOS. It has absolutely everything you could possibly need, and only takes a few minutes to learn.

The only downside to these apps is, of course, that you can't get a signal underground.

The only down side is that TfL generic service descriptors such as 'Good Service', 'Minor Delays' (etc) are totally misleading. I've had a 'Good Service' on the Bakerloo line whilst in reality the nearest train was 10 mins away (central section) with serve delays. The station controller was announcing a good service on all London Underground lines before doing a local announcement on the Bakerloo announcing the delays. That is the joy of having a central information controller. But hey, thats another can of worms!

TP

BTW. Shouldn't this be in another area? FT&R doesn't quite fit ;)

Indeed. I'm on the DLR to Bank and my phone says that there are "severe delays" on the Central Line, even though when I arrive at Bank the announcement is saying that services have almost resumed to normal, with only minor delays.

Err.... yes. ;)

The line's status is actually set by the Line Information Specialist (1 for each line except the MCH). It's only relayed by the LIS to the Network Information Manager who updates the ESUB's (electronic service update boards) and tells internal/external departments.

The problem with having an LIS set the service status in my personal opinion is that it is the LIS' direct manager who gets a hell of a lot more work when the status changes from good service so they are (in my personal opinion) discouraged from changing it.

Very impressed. Now I can remove my Tube Status app but I'll keep Journey Pro for the maps I think!
Looking forward to future developments.
