There will be a thematic train called the "Connecting Europe" Express, that'll travel around 26 countries.

It'll depart from Lisbon in September 2nd, and arrive at Paris at October 7th, stopping at 70 cities along the way, with parallel events in each.

The Portuguese Railway Company Bulletin says the train will focus on the EU Infrastructure Policy, not mentioning if the rolling stock will have a spotlight, besides the Express itself.

I, myself, am still wondering just how are they going to pull this off.

----EDIT----

By the way, said train already has a website at www.connectingeuropeexpress.eu

With a day left for the departure of the CEE some more details have surfaced about how it will be composed:

In Portugal and Spain, the train will be composed of a single Talgo unit with traction provided by a CP 5600 and Renfe 252. It won't go beyond Hendaye;
Between Estonia and Lithuania a LTG DMU will do the honours;
Everywhere else will have a train composed of a SNCF conference car, a DB and SBB regular passenger car, a FS restaurant car, an ÖBB sleeper car and a undisclosed six car.

The European Comission says this these trains are meant to show the lack of interoperability that exists between the different european railway networks.

I personally think this strategy is absolutely flawed and will only cause harm to rail, rather than helping it become more relevant in the minds of people around the EU, considering that we have the technology to prove the opposite... ‍

Once upon a time there was a Moscow-Madrid sleeping car that ran on 1520mm, 1435mm and 1668mm.

WLABm Sleeping-car of SZD (017-04139 ; 56-20-70-80-452-0), seen at Madrid-Chamartin.
This sleeping-car ran a through service on Moscow-Madrid in Summers 1990, 1991 and 1992, via Berlin, Karlsruhe, Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lyons, Toulouse, Irun and Valladolid. It would change bogies twice (Brest-Litovsk and Hendaye).

It is seen in the rear part of the consist of Estrella 204 "Costa-Vasca" (Madrid-Bilbao/Hendaye), at around 09:30pm.

Madrid-Chamartin. June 1990.
