For those unaware, the Churnet Valley Railway suffered from serious levels of flooding by the Caldon Canal over the weekend of October 26/27. This has left a section of track South of Consall hanging mid-air after the ballast was washed away by the flood waters. However, thanks to some excellent offers of support from the rail industry, a full plan of repairs has been produced that will include improvements to avoid similar damage should the canal reach similar levels again - with physical work starting from Monday! All of this will be completed by the end of this month, ensuring our annual Santa & Steam specials will run as planned.

Whilst the practical support has been fantastic, we now though need help from everyone who supports the CVR. Such repairs are a costly exercise, and we need to pay for these ourselves. If we don't find the funds now, we will be forced to find it from elsewhere meaning we will start the 2020 season on the back foot - in a year that is planned to be dedicated to the recently announced "Reconnect Leek" project that will see us return trains to Leek for the first time since 1970. Therefore, we have set up an appeal to accept funds for the repairs.

For this weekend we are asking people to donate simply £2. With nearly 23,000 "likes" on our Facebook page, if everyone donated we'd have more than enough for the initial repairs.
With over 46,000 registered members - if every RailUK user donated £2 we'd have enough for the majority of the repairs.
Donations are being accepted online through our website where you can pay using PayPal or make a Card Payment. through WorldPay. Payments from outside the UK can also be accepted in this way.

Further, Share Issue 4 has been re-opened for those wanting to donate any large sums. Further details of this will be released next week.

We will try and ensure we keep people up to date with how the repairs and fundraising are going. We have already received donations from long-standing members, and some visitors to our cancelled Super Power event have declined a refund in offer of support - all of which has been gratefully received. Now though is time to push on, and we hope our supporters are able to join us in rising from this unexpected setback, whether that be donating to the appeal, or coming to enjoy a ride on one of our Santa & Steam specials before Christmas or our ever-popular post-Christmas Winter Warmers with 2253 'Omaha'.

Thank You one and all.
