This struck me today.
What is the highest number of consecutively numbered roads I can travel on in the UK in one journey?
Without a break in the sequence.
e.g A1-A2-A3 etc, but I don't think that example will be possible though.
A better one would be A10 - A11 - A12 again that might not be possible.

In Dorset you can travel on the A354 from Portland to Littlemoor, take the A353 towards Warmwell, the A352 towards Wareham and then the A351 into Swanage. The A350 isn't far away over the water in Poole, but you can't get there directly without taking other roads in between.

A37-A38-A39 is (almost) possible via Bristol / Bridgewater (or at least within a mile in Bristol). I think the A37 ends at its junction with the A4 just short of the A38 though.

A22-A23-A24-A25 is another agonisingly close one but the A24 ends on the A3 at Clapham Common while the A23 is nearby at Brixton.

You can almost do a A15-A16-A17 continuous loop between Peterborough, Sutterton and Sleaford; unfortunately you have to travel on the A47 between two roundabouts in Peterborough.
You can do A45-A46 at Coventry, but unfortunately can't join the A47 afterwards.
A33-A34 at Winchester (just!)

You can do the A11,12 & 13 easily in a triangle:

A11 from Whitechapel High St. to Bow Rd. then turn south onto A12 Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach to A13 then turn west along East India Dock Rd and Commercial Rd to the Junction with Whitechapel High St. (A12 - again). Repeat until fed up!

A75-A76-A77-A78-A79 is possible.

If you go back to the 80s I think it would have been possible to get a full house of the 70s, driving along the A70-A79 in sequence. The progressive truncating of the A74 as the A74(M) and M74 were built broke the chain.

I think A380 > A381 > A382 > A383 works in Newton Abbot - and all in a journey of under 2 miles. Unfortunately the A379 no longer meets the A380, and the A384 is a fair way away from the A383.

A202-A203-A204-A205-A206 in South London - the first two meeting at Vauxhall Cross, next at Brixton, then Tulse Hill and finally at Woolwich. The A205 crosses the A207 at Shooters Hill (and indeed the A208 at the Well Hall Roundabout) but there is no connection with the A206

A590-A591-A592 in Cumbria
you could then drive from the Kirkstone Inn to Ambleside via The Struggle to reach the A593-A595-A594-A596-A597

almost but not quite...

From it's junction with the A66 near Bowes, you can use the A688, A689, A690, A691, A692 and A693 to end up at Sunderland, admittedly via a somewhat zig zag route. Six consecutive roads, but you'd only be doing a tiny bit of the A692 and very little of the mighty A689!
