Hi can anyone think of 2 consecutive stations with no direct link?
I would say:

Bedwyn>Pewsey (prior to Dec 06 but now only limited)
Bedhampton>Cosham
Redbridge>Totton
St. James' Park>Pinhoe
Chathill>Berwick

Any more I haven't listed?

Why does this occur? why would you implement a service with no link to the next station?

Chinley to Hazel Grove. No direct service
For chinley to Stockport - there is a limited direct peak hour service taking 19 minutes (mainly for commuting from Chinley into Stockport) - most of the time the journey planners tell you to change at Manc Pic. & officially takes 58 minutes.
Even longer to get to Hazel Grove.

Warrington Bank Quay - Acton Bridge
Lockerbie - Carstairs

Crewe - Norton Bridge in the days when Norton Bridge was still a station rather than a bus stop!

Bedwyn to Pewsey does have direct services, thus I suggest you remove it from your list!

The 05:50 from Piccadilly goes via Stockport and Hazel Grove rather than via Romiley :p

I cannot be sure but the most logical reason I can think is a perceived lack of demand for Chathill and Berwick, which would tie up a unit in the morning and evening going to continue the Newcastle service beyond Chathill.

For the route that WSMR use you could have Wolverhampton and Bescot Stadium, then Aston and Stechford. Then Lichfield TV and Burton on Trent, Melton Mowbray and Syston, Stansted Airport and Elsenham. How about Bristol Parkway and Patchway. I'll try and think of some more, no doubt some of those are wrong.

Hundreds! Why does it occur? Because of train service patterns and the existence of freight-only lines and chords. Trains usually do not by-pass major cities, and many trains do not call at all stations.

Examples include:-
Wetherall to Penrith
Wetherall to Dalston (Cumbria)
Drem to Dunbar
Newcraighall to Wallyford
Newcraighall/Brunstane to Slateford/Haymarket/South Gyle/Edinburgh Park
Berwick-upon-Tweed to Chathill
Dunston to Heworth
Dunston to Chester-le-Street
Chester-le-Street to Heworth
Eaglescliffe to Yarm
Castleford to Selby
Castleford to Sherburn-in-Elmet
Knottingley to Sherburn-in-Elmet
Knottingley to Selby
Woodhouse to Chesterfield
Bramley to Outwood
Cottingley to Woodlesford
Clitheroe to Hellifield (except On Summer Sundays?)
Rose Grove to Burnley Manchester Road
Lostock Hall to Leyland
Guide Bridge to Stalybridge
Ashton-under-Lyne to Denton
Eccles to Deansgate
Acton Bridge to Warrington BQ
Newton-le-Willows to Wigan
Conisbrough to Retford/Gainsborough Leigh Road/Gainsborough Central
Doncaster-Gainsborough Central

and many, many more! (wouldn't like to look at Glasgow or London, there would be dozens at each!)

Dinsdale - Teesside Airport, although there is a return journey Teesside Airport - Dinsdale
So doesn't that mean that they're consecutive stations with a direct service then? Doesn't have to be both directions to have a direct service.

Sivlerdale to Wennington.
Woodlesford to Burley Park/Shipley/Outwood
South Wigston to Loughborough
South Wigston/Lougborough to Burton upon Trent/Lichfield TV/Tamworth
Sielby to Melton Mowbray
Lichfield TV to Burton upon Trent

Read the bit in brackets!

Wetherall to Dalston (Cumbria)

Drem to Dunbar

Eaglescliffe to Yarm

Dalston is between Wigton and Carlisle?

Is Drem south of Dunbar?

Eaglescliffe and Yarm are connected by GC.

You could link up Newcastle-Chathill with Dunbar-Edinburgh and therefore provide some Newcastle-Edinburgh local services!

How about Bristol Parkway and Patchway.

There's one BPW-Patchway in the morning around 7:00 and one back at around 22:00.

ah that's out the window then! Still a diabolical service

Parliamentry service sadly, Pilning has no platform lights either so anything has to be in daylight.

Back on topic though.... how about a slightly tenuous St Andrews Road - Bristol Parkway ??

Bromsgrove - Barnt Green is the most quoted usually?
Coleshill - Wilnecote
Belper - Sheffield ?
Dronfield - Dore
Whitwell - Shireoaks
Woodhouse - Chesterfield
Pear Tree - Willington
Kirkby in Ashfield - Alfreton

Far far too many!

Nope. Monday to Friday 0602 Taunton - Cardiff Central calls at Bristol Parkway then Patchway. 2200 Cardiff - Weston-super-Mare calls Patchway then Bristol Parkway.

However, try buying a ticket for a journey from Patchway to Bristol Parkway!!

What about Keynsham to Lawrence Hill? There is a passenger service on this route avoiding Temple Meads utilising the Rhubarb Curve.

I don't get it! Patchway - Bristol Parkway cost is £3.60 SDR or £2.60 SDS.

Yep, that's the one!

No, Drem is west of Dunbar.

No, GC don't call at Yarm

Indeed. It would be rather more practical if some of the stations were on loops though!

Ahh..... Fares are in OJPs but not in NFM06. Although WebTIS on East Coast gives different prices to those you quoted. £2.40 SDS and £3.50 SDR.
