:D Excellent - bet the other pax on board couldn't believe their eyes when they rolled into platform and saw everyone waiting to board !
;) Hopefully some "armchair" supporters will have boosted ticket numbers for this year as well ??

Other than a fun day out, what's the point? The event will be known about to the people putting together station usage numbers, might even get a mention in the analysis. The inflated figures won't be used regarding any operational decisions.

Publicity of the station, and the surroundings, much like Paul Merton has been doing with his request stops.
There was a guided walk accompanying the event, and the station is well positioned for walkers at the bottom of a very steep hill up to liskeard.

Well I visited a few weeks ago whilst in the area on a Rover (though bought a ticket to Coombe as well for numbers purposes) - it looks like my visit will be somewhat lost in the numbers from here :P

This morning I attended a Crowdgetter Event to increase passenger numbers at Coombe Junction. Local Media picked up on the event last night which looked to have done numbers well.
Last year Coombe junction had 26 passengers all year.
Todays 1052 had 108 passengers

So how many places does that push it up the rankings? And what happens when someone does the same for the likes of Teeside Airport? Is this some obscure form of competition to game the numbers, or a genuine attempt to increase the service?

Whilst I can appreciate that the remote location of this platform means pax will never be high, I can't for the life of me understand why all but a couple of services don't draw forward the extra - what 10 yards or so - into the platform and make a call.

I have been told that if the driver observes someone on the platform they will draw forward to pick that person up even if the service is not booked to call.

The distance is 10 chains (9 if you deduct a coach length) and the WTT allowance for the stop is a (generous IMO) 3-4 minutes, so it is significant. For at least 40 years the halt has been served as and when there is enough time in the schedule to permit it, and that has varied from year to year depending on main line connections.

Interesting, though if I'm honest it's not exactly something I'd like to rely on... I guess it is worth a try to avoid a walk to Liskeard, though.

Did any of them actually buy a ticket? The train looks too crowded for the guard to get through so it probably had zero impact on the passenger numbers!

Yes, the organiser collected fares before the train arrived, and purchased group save tickets for all as pre-agreed with GWR. We were then handed tickets at liskeard on exiting the station.

With less freight on the branch, and closure of the cement plant? Could there be a case to extend the service to the old Moorswater Station, for the Industrial Estate, and or a Park & Ride scheme for Looe & Liskeard?

Its rumoured the cement plant is being turned into a distribution centre for Cornwall, with the product arriving by rail once a week from July, before being transferred to road vehicles.

I was involved in some tram-train feasibility studies for Plymouth about 15 years ago, including the possibility of laying a tram-compatible connection at Liskeard and running a "suburban" type service from Plymouth to Looe with just such a P&R at Moorswater. Nothing ever happened of course...

Tram-train and Devon/Cornwall? If ever there was a combination less likely to get funding, I can't offhand think of it, unfortunately.:)
