Correct PRIV discount loaded to Oyster card?

My friend asked to have his Priv discount loaded onto his Oyster card a couple of days ago. He is an active member of staff with protected status. The first member of staff was going to select "National Rail N" from the screen when loading on the discount but then another member of staff who said he used to work in the booking office changed it to "National Rail" What is the difference between these two and has my friend had the correct discount loaded?

First one might be N = new entrant, one the second one for protected staff.
