Could EMR HST windows be modified to be locked shut?

It has been a long time since I've travelled on a HST so I can't remember much about the doors/windows, but is it not possible for the windows to be locked shut so that people can't lean out of them?
Unfortunately I don't think so as it would make alighting the train.... impossible (unless someone opened the door from the outside)

I assume then that there isn't a door handle on the inside. I always thought that people opened the window and used the outside handle because it was easier than an inside handle

It's one reason why I'm looking forward to the Night Riviera being rolled out - it will only allow you to lower the droplight when the CDL is active. Therefore if you want to leave the train at the station, you will be able to lower the window. But when the train is in motion, you wont.

Perish the thought, but could they be being withdrawn early to send to GWR?
No chance. Not only would GWR not want the issues with window hanging etc that EMR are currently having, they would be of little use to GWR with no ATP fitted.

Actually, a solution to this has been found for the GWR sleeper in the form of a gadget that locks the window with the CDL, though obviously only if it's closed.

I forget if it's been installed yet.

What about bars similar to the Cumbrian Coast carriages used a few years back? May be too late now.

An option which locks the droplight in the up position is preferable to window bars. Too late for EMR but may be an excellent addition to the remaining Mark 1 / 2 / 3 charter stock.

So the point is, its too late to do anything other than extra staff?

Does it show whether any windows are open, and prevent departure if they're not?
Neither, there's no interlock or indication if a window is still open. Its up to the guard/hosts to close the windows prior to dispatch. When the CDL is engaged the window locks operate. Should one be missed it's simply shut which then engages with the lock. The system is simple and works well.
