If anyone's interested, Chiltern are currently recruiting for Trainee Train Managers based at Banbury and Birmingham.

Original URL: https://jobs.chilternrailways.co.uk/recruiter/page_jobinfo.php?id=178

Closing Date: Thursday 10th November 2016

Salary - £23,678 rising to £32,665 per annum once training is complete.

We are looking for committed Trainee Train Managers to work within Chiltern with the aim of achieving a high standard of quality and performance on trains, as directed by the On Train Service Manager.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure own personal safety and that of others at all times.
  • Manage customer security, respond to customer enquiries and in times of disruption, ensure that customers’ needs are placed first.
  • Provide clear and concise on train announcements to ensure accurate information is given to customers.
  • Check the cleanliness and general environment of each train and rectify or report faults by means of the Vehicle Defect Book.
  • Supervise the catering steward/ess, ensuring that a high level of customer service is delivered by all catering staff. Assist the catering steward/ess where necessary.
  • Welcome customers boarding trains, particularly at originating stations.
  • Provide passenger count information on trains.
  • Deal with anti-social behaviour on trains.
  • Carry out all necessary Rules and Regulation.
  • Act as an “Authorised Person” to take part in revenue protection on trains and stations, issuing Penalty Fares and excess fares where appropriate.
Act in accordance with the Code of Practice for the treatment of suspects, within the scope of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 to:
    • Conduct Interviews with Suspects.
    • Make notes, prepare and submit reports.
    • Attend court as required.
  • At the end of each 4-week period, provide a report of between 200 and 500 words detailing activities throughout the period, particularly in relation to:
    • Customer Service Improvements.
    • Opportunities to increase revenue.
    • Experiences with anti-social passengers and fraudulent travel.
    • Other relevant information.
  • Assist as directed where reasonable and safe.

When completing the online application, I'd advise typing responses up into the text editor of your choice and cut and pasting them into your browser as there is a forced session timeout in place and taking too long will result in the system kicking you out when you try to submit the application, losing all your wonderful prose in the process. (I speak from experience on this front!)
