An open day has been announced at the former Crewe diesel depot, now the operational base for Locomotive Services Ltd, for 8th June 2019. Intercity liveried 91119 is expected to attend, and one of the other star attractions will be...one of Northern's class 142 Pacers.

Joking aside, the list of steam, diesel and electric exhibits is extensive, and this seems like one of the most comprehensive depot open days in recent years, along with the Old Oak Common event.

Details of exhibits and ticket prices can be found below:
I suppose it does give an appropriate send off for the long-lived bane of Northern commuters existences, and I wonder if the opportunity will be taken to revinyl the unit in original livery for its last months in service?

I wonder which "original livery" they'd choose... They were delivered in several. I suppose the "Provincial" livery is the most "neutral" of them.

Possibly dependent on which 142 Northern selected for the treatment, if it came to pass: If, for instance, they wanted to showcase 142001, I would assume that it would have its GMPTE orange scheme reapplied (Quite fitting, seeing as it's still a Newton Heath based unit). Though as you say the Provincial 'Railbus' scheme would be the general 'catch all' livery.

    “Strikes Я Us“ perhaps?

No, as it's a Saturday, perhaps just an empty siding, or a rail replacement bus where it should have been?

The only issue, I suppose, would be whether Transport for Greater Manchester have any intellectual property rights in the old GMPTE livery- although I rather liked it and somewhere still have the Hornby model with Bidston and Wrexham destination blinds (as per prototype).

You shouldn’t believe everything written on the web.

Got my tickets for this yesterday. Looking forward to it, it should be a good day out. Haven't been around crewe diesel since the late eighties.

I can't find a ticket buying link anywhere - does that mean it's already sold out?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but how long would one need at a depot open day like this? I've never done anything like it before, and I can't really tell how long it takes until I've had enough.

I guess it depends on the person, and the scale of the day (which is quite big by the looks of things)

    Any rough estimates?

If you just want to walk round, have a snack and do a few pictures, probably 2 to 3 hours or so.

If you want to seriously photograph the exhibits, allow another 1 to 1½ hours on top for waiting for a clear shot of each one in turn... ( The famous "Open Day Syndrome" will be sure to manifest itself! ).

Plus another hour or so if you're going to visit all the sales stalls as well.

Ah thanks! I'm definitely not one for waiting for photographs so 2-3 hours sounds good

UK Railtours are running a special from Euston - I wonder how long they will leave people at Crewe...

And if you know a load of other people who are attending, an hour or so to talk to them... I have been known to spend all day at such an event!

Looking forward to it, great line up thus far. It'll be great to tie in a visit to the heritage centre on the Sunday too. Ps has anyone received tickets in the post yet?

    Cheers

They say tickets will be sent out in May, so I suspect not.

A thought... a possible forum meet up at the event...?

That's a shame, I was looking forward to this but I had assumed it was a pay as you enter event. I imagine there will be a lot of disappointed people then.

I am still waiting for mine to, though the lady on the phone when I purchased them said late May. So I presume they will be in the post next week or the week after.
