Essex beat Surrey by eight wickets, return to the top of Division 1 in the County Championship and remain unbeaten
Wow!
At least the right decision was reached but it's a bit disappointing that the batsman was reportedly reluctant to walk. Whatever you views on walking in general I think if the stump's been uprooted (no matter the condition of the bails) the right thing to do is walk off at that point
Anyone interested in the Champions Trophy?
Morgan, the England captain, now tries to lay the blame on the decision to play on used pitches in the later stages of the Champions Trophy whereas that ignores the fact that good fielding and bowling by Pakistan in the semi-final match reduced England to a meagre total of 211 all out from 49.5 overs.
Pakistan reached their winning total of 215-2 to win by eight wickets with almost 13 overs to spare.
Day 4 at Old Trafford, after 1st innings of 395 by Hampshire and 593 by Lancashire, saw Hampshire unable to repeat their 1st innings batting performance and they were all out for 168 in their 2nd innings with Lancashire winning by an innings and 30 runs.
Anderson returned a good 2nd innings bowling spell of 15 - 5 - 20 - 4.
BBC: Henry Blofeld will retire from BBC Radio's Test Match Special after 45 years in the commentary box.
Henry Blofeld is to retire from TMS. Very sad news. No one is a descriptive or chaotic as he is! Who will tell us about pigeons or helicopters now?

Alistair Cook and Nick Browne set a record opening partnership for Essex, currently standing at 319 against county champions Middlesex, who were all out for 246.
Edit to add - this is Cook's third Championship ton this season, and is currently scoring a hundred per 3.5 innings.
Nick Browne must have an outside chance of making the team for the First Test v South Africa next week: Hameed of Lancs surely can't be picked in view of his travails this season. Another left-hander, but so what if Cook and Browne are seen to offer our best chance of a good start?
I'd love to see Browne in, but have to agree he'd be an outside bet.
With the game heading for a draw, thanks to Nick Compton's 120, the loss of his wicket prompts a Middlesex collapse, with five wickets falling for ten runs in thirty minutes.
Simon Harmer does the damage again, finishing the 2nd innings with 9-95, giving him figures of 14-172 for the match.
That's 28 wickets in a week and 47 for the season so far!
BBC to broadcast live TV coverage of English international and domestic cricket
http://www.cricket.com.au/news/aust...association-aca-ca-pay-dispute-mou/2017-07-06The absence of a new Memorandum of Understanding has led to the development tour to cease
The proposed Australia A tour to South Africa, due to start next week, will not go ahead, with the Australian Cricketers' Association announcing today that the players have chosen not take part as a result of the ongoing stalemate over a new Memorandum of Understanding.
The ACA released a statement confirming an earlier resolution passed at a meeting of the ACA executive last weekend that players would not agree to tour unless an MOU "on fair terms" was in place, and while any out-of-contract players thus remained unemployed.
England's first innings performance today was a cameo of Lancashire's performances this season. Looking forward to 5 days at Old Trafford at the start of next month.
Hameed couldn't be blamed for this one! Jennings now has three innings of scores between 0 and 8 out of five, although of course he had a century in his first test innings. Boycott was hinting in his newspaper column this morning that just because a batsman scores a century in his first test doesn't necessarily imply they have a great test future in front of them, citing John Hampshire (Yorks) and Frank Hayes (Lancs) as examples. Perhaps more pertinently, both Boycott and Michael Vaughan wrote that Gary Ballance wasn't a no. 3 but a no. 5, where he's been scoring a ton of runs for Yorks this season. The same mistake was made before! Anyway, all praise to the marvellous Joe Root, our own Virat Kohli, not forgetting his great mate Ben Stokes and the ever-useful Mooen Ali.
The morning session of the 4th day of the Test Match saw England move from 139-1 to 182-8. Shades of past deeds in Australia.
And it will happen again............provided we have a cricket team come November.
