Does anyone know why the 'big name' Windies players like Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo haven't come on this tour?

There has been a dispute between some 'senior' players and the WI Board for years, Some of those who could or should be in the team haven't played first class cricket for a few years, and apparently don't want to as they are part of the world T20 circus where they can earn far more than playing test cricket for the WI. Even though Chanderpaul is 43 he would walk into this team but probably would earn more playing for Lancashire. I think that the current WI team is in effect a second or even third eleven. It's so sad to see and not good for test cricket at all.

They are playing in the Caribbean League, a T20 competition, along with players of other nationalities.

Surely there can be no pleasure in seeing such a poor West Indies side.

That was Boycott's view on TMS - complaining about the poor value for money for the paying punters.

I'm was thinking about going to the ODI in Manchester in September, though may now give it a miss if the performance is so poor. Though they may be better in an ODI match?

Gayle, Pollard, Marlon Samuels and Narine (at least) are expected to play in the ODIs. Apparently Darren Bravo was excluded from the test tour because he refused to apologise for tweeting that Dave Cameron, a big cheese in Windies administration, was a 'big idiot'. Good to know that Cameron, having left us in the lurch, is now doing the same in the Caribbean.

What about his brother Dwayne? Is he due to play in the ODIs?

A semi-rural part of north-west England
Day 3 of the Test Match saw West Indies, thanks to a knock of 43 by Holder, move from 329-7 to 404-8, before finally being dismissed for 427.

Anderson 29 - 7 - 76 - 5.

England in their second innings were 94-3 at one time, with the top three, Cook, Stoneman and Westley all dismissed, but Root and Malan persevered and at close of play, the deficit had been cleared and they had moved the score on to 171-3. An interesting final two days play to look forward to.

Two things to consider going into the last day's play at Headingley -
1) Windies have never lost a match in which they had a first innings lead of 150 plus (that's 116 matches in total)
2) England have only won a match on four occasions when they conceded a lead of 150 plus on first innings, including Headingley 1981 of course.
Can't wait for the denouement.

Anyone watching the final session? West Indies 256-4. Still 17 overs to go. WI need 63 runs and Eng need 6 wickets. New ball available in one over.

A win for the West Indies by 5 wickets and a few overs to spare! Shai Hope man of the match.

Come to think of it, what ever happened to Marlon Samuels?

Looks like Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels will be back for the ODIs.

Shai Hope the first man to hit two centuries in a match at Headingley, that's any first class match, not just a Test Match - he might only have been the second if Kraig Brathwaite hadn't holed out for 95 minutes earlier!

Meanwhile in the Minor Counties. Lincolnshire lost to Berkshire in the Unicorns Championship Final by 6 wickets. This means they've lost to them twice this season, firstly in the Knockout Cup final and now today. However reports suggest that the standard of cricket played shows it was the two best teams playing apparently.

Worth mentioning Jimmy Anderson's milestones in the test just finished.

500th test wicket on Friday.
Test best figures on 7-42 on Saturday.

May I also mention Henry Blowfeld, who sadly commentated on his last cricket match on Saturday. Great match but ashame it ended so soon. Blowers will be sorely missed.

After the match England invited him into their dressing room and gave him a fully signed Joe Root England shirt. Prior to the match presentations, Blowers did a lap around Lords.

He scored a hundred at Lords in 1956 and he was promising cricketer until he got hit by a bus. Still cricket playing's loss was our listening gain, until yesterday.
