You will find that yesterday’s score in the lancs/yorks game is in part a consequence of the pitch at OT, I’m a member at lancs and go to most games (couldn’t make it yesterday unfortunately) and the pitch has been like playing on a bowling green, it’s offering nothing. Take a look at the scores in the Somerset and surrey county games there earlier this year, they were high scoring on account of the pitch being lifeless.

Home advantage didn't count for much!

Back to the normality that I see the County Championship as being, Lancashire were in real trouble against Essex at 59-5 halfway through the 30th over on a wicket that seemed to hide no gremlins, but some very good batting by the middle and lower order batsmen took Lancashire to 297-9 at the close of play on day one.

Lancashire played Hameed at number three, but he was dismissed for only 5 in 38 balls.

A fantastic ODI between Scotland and England at The Grange in Edinburgh today.

Scotland: 371 -5 from their 50 overs.

England: 365 all out on 48.5 overs.

Record scores, a game swinging this way and that, a superb atmosphere, a tense finish with Scotland winning by 6 runs and history making

Scotland were absolutely superb. Outstanding.

Essex managed to post a first innings total of 302, overtaking the Lancashire total by one run, but then Lancashire in their second innings decided to emulate the past England batting debacle some time ago against Australia and the alarm bells must have been ringing ever so loudly when they succumbed to 29-6, ably assisted by their number three, Hameed, who managed to score a grand total of 4 (giving him a match average of 4.50). It took some more sustained batting by the numbers 8, 9 and 10 to post a second innings total of 105 all out (32.4 overs)

Essex decided to join in the batting jollities of the day in their second innings being 41-4 before County Championship batting normality resumed and they then reached the winning score of 108-5 (28.5 overs) to win by five wickets within three days.

Hameed has not been the same batsman since he's been back from injury. I can't see him spending much longer in the first class game, which is a shame as there were high hopes for him.

Whilst agree he is running out of opportunities watching him regularly I don't get the feeling that it is some kind of physical limitation but rather a psychological one. He is hanging his bat and being found out as he keeps getting out to cheap outside edges to the slips. He needs to work on his stroke play and style but to get there he needs to get his head clear. Forget about England and get himself and his own self confidence back to where it was.

You're right, it's very much a mental battle, not a physical thing. I'm sure that LCCC have sports psychologists on the staff, though it doesn't seem to be improving his game. Such a shame as he had great potential.

Anything below first division cricket he can handle - he's been scoring big for the seconds and various club sides. Think it's just getting that one big innings, and he's even been going in at 3 to spare him the new ball. But as alluded to, there's only so long Lancs can give him, and the worry is he'll be shipped off to another county (maybe a second division side) and score thousands.
But if Lancashire are gonna be relegated he'll end up playing lower-division cricket anyway!

England managed to scrape home versus Australia today. Australia were 214 all out and England finished on 218-7 winning by 3 wickets. It should have been a lot easier.

Our top order sure played like intelle....brainless cricketers.

It appears The Oval sercurity doesn't have much of a sense of humor. Taking sandpaper 4/6 cards off the punters.

On the radio the Aussies were getting their excuses in early with England 150-3. It is a young, inexperienced team, injuries, suspensions etc. They stopped all that at 163-6 with England staring down the barrel!

I think have become too nice a team. We lack the killer instinct of sides past.

yeah but ball tampering.....................

The one day side is pretty inexperienced and will get better over time. I am sure that Aussie hardness and all encompassing desire to beat the Poms will come a long in due course. That massive unit (Stanlake?) might be a good prospect for the next Aussie pace merchant. There looks to be something in there.

Apparently (TMS) someone was handing out Ssandpaper to the crowd in the audience of the Australia match!

More rumblings of allegations of ball tampering, this time in the Windies Sri Lanka game today with Sri Lanka refusing to take to the field after being told they could not continue to use the worn out ball. Windies have been awarded five penalty runs.

Yorkshire were forced to play a one-day cup semi-final without FIVE players called away on England duty - and not surprisingly got hammered. It makes a mockery of the competition when semi-finals are scheduled at the same time as a ODI series as the Aussies.

England have just broken the record for the most runs scored in an ODI in their game against Australia - the TMS commentators are saying they might even make 500!
