Reading a publication recently I saw a picture of the CrossCountry Voyager refresh which includes a new red/maroon seat moquette in First Class, and an identical replacement of carpet and seat coverings in Standard.

    Further to this thread:

does anyone know what unit(s) complete so far, and how long the work will take?

Could probably do with having a look at the internal doors so they don't cut you in half if you are stood in the doorway...

Surely that just makes every journey that bit more of a challenge?

thats one way of looking at it but I tell you, its kind a painfull being trapped in said offending doors. Anybody bashed a refurbed set yet and how fast are they doing them?

This refurb is so pointless. I can only assume there's an abundance of red/blue material at Central Rivers.

It's totally mad that the Meridian fleet has been completely overhauled (despite being fine before) and yet the Voyagers soldier on with their original scheme - which really isn't comfortable on anything but an empty Voyager.

The Meridians did need going, the material of the original seats wasn't good, and it was getting very worn. It is not uncommon to see a 222 with threadbare seats going around, so they did need it :)

A firm push with the shoulders soon returns them to their open status.

The trouble is that the "open" button becomes near enough invisible when you are queueing close to them.

They should have their interiors ripped out and have the Meridian interior fitted. This would be a great improvement. I realise that this would probably be too costly.

the 222s greater interior volume is due to more equipment being relocated under the floor to free up space for passengers, that would be insanely expensive to do to existing rolling stock.

Mojo - to my knowledge the following units have been done:

    220001/007/008/010/012/015/018/020/022; amongst a few others.

    aswell as 221135

Not changing the colours in Standard is apparently something to do with DDA regs - that there must be a contrast between the grab handles and the seat itself or something like that.

EMT have orange grab handles and bright red seating - hardly contrasts! Similarly Northern have lilac handles on Purple seating.

Can they please add foot-operated opening buttons for internal doors like the 222s have, so much easier when you have your hands full.

I personally prefer the layout and seating in refurbished EMT HSTs, but I don't think many people like the seats.

I do wish the current fad for lurid bright red upholstery would pass !

I know 220030 has had Wifi fitted. Are there any other units with Wifi installed now too?

More seats per carriage meaning more revenue I would guess. Voyager seats are higher backed than the EMT ones too, which does make a big difference to the feel of the carriage. The difference is well highlighted in the set that EC have on loan from EMT. This has a carriage that's 75% as your photo and 25% high back blue seats and the difference is surprising.

Refresh? They need a heavy refurb starting with new deeper overhead luggage racks.

This does seem a stupid question but if the pantograph thing does go ahead will this eliminate the underfloor engine noise and make them sound more 390 like going through the electric sections?

The engines will be shut down so therefore quieter / different sound.

The challenge will be getting the engines to start when you require them.
