Is the livery worn by CrossCountry Voyagers simply the Virgin livery with a few ammendments or have they ever been fully repainted? If it is original then it is wearing rather well.

Comparing this to this, makes me think they've been repainted, at least in part.

It's just vinyls to the best of my knowledge, the silver-grey base coat and black window bands being as delivered. Crosscountry Trains' "warm black" having seemingly been chosen to precisely match the shade produced by diesel fumes over Virgin red on the roofs of the vehicles, the application of the Crosscountry livery to the roofs being limited to a band at cantrail level. ;)

Since the late eighties/early nineties it's been standard practice for high quality, modern paint finishes on rolling stock to be expected to last fifteen years or so with few signs of deterioration.

On a handful of 220s and 221s, you can see where the maroon vinyl has worn away, revealing the nicer Virgin red.

As NajaB alludes to, they were revinyled (?), apart from the roof. Initially this did stick out a bit, however, with the amount of neglect that they've had, it no longer does

Nice shots there, especially the second one :)

The phrase can't be bothered springs to mind when talking about CrossCountry voyagers, with their interior stripey doors and virgin standard class seats. You can see how many people still to mistake them for the Virgin services that ran 9 years ago.

Now I quite like the XC house style and uniform which is quite smart, but when they took over the franchise they did not emphasis they were a new company and many people saw it as a more of a rebrand.

To be fair to CrossCountry, they did reupholster the seats the other year, but it was a decision to use the same moquette as Virgin did, except in First class.

I like the interior colours but you can see how many passengers still regard it as 'virgin colours'

The reason for using Virgin colour's was apparently due to DDA regulations or that the XC scheme was too dark...

I'd love these trains to have a total refit...

Unlikely. XC put all over maroon on their seats on both their HST and 170 sets.
