What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Both me and my partner (and the dog) will be travelling to Filey at the beginning of May.

As a dry run, I have had a look on both the LNER and TP websites for the outward on Monday 1 February and returning on Friday 5 February as that is as far as the online booking systems will go into the future (actual dates is Mon 3 May out, Fri 7 May return).

There are some Advance fares available, both Standard and First Class, but these involve a change at Doncaster onto the ex Sheffield train and going via Hull. The changing at York and either Scarborough or Seamer option has no Advance fares at all.

However, I have tried York - Scarborough on the TP website, and this comes up with Advance fares, but having tried York (and Darlington) - Filey, the Advance fares disappear.

Are First Group/TP playing funny games again?

It's to do with the route of the Advance tickets in question. Croy to Filey Advance tickets are set by LNER and are route LNER & Connections.

TPE aren't allowing their service as a connecting service for LNER's Advance in this case. Northern do, so you're offered the Advance on their service.

Depending on what Advance tickets are released and when, it may be cheaper to split tickets, at York for instance.

LNER often release their Advance before other companies, which can cause issues, but Trainsplit will advise you of the cheapest available ticket(s).

It’s worth adding that there are no York to Filey Advance fares for any route. and the only Darlington to Filey Advance fares are routed XC & connections so will probably suffer the same difficulties with journeys through Seamer.

Anything doing by booking Croy -> Scarborough advance tickets (assuming available) and then adding on walk up tickets for the shortish final leg between Scarborough and Filey?

Split ticketing sites (like ours) will find fares for these journeys automatically, even if it means buying a separate ticket for the local leg.

Trainsplit is offering a price of around £63 for 2 adults (with 2 together Railcard) from Croy to Filey, for 6th January via Malton.

I didn't look at the return direction

If you book with TPE you won't get a seat selector and you will be charged a though fare so you could be paying more.

LNER will give you a seat selector, but only on their own trains, and as with TPE they have chosen to only sell through fares, which are often charged at a premium.

I've not checked other split ticket providers such as RailEurope or Trainline.
