Correct -- "Gallic" thing in my clue -- "parental property": de la mere, French for "of the mother". The motorway-services bit: Leigh Delamere services, on the M4 not far from Chippenham.

Cleland?

Cleveland being the abolished county, VE being the victory and John Cleland being a writer of saucy books.

Absolutely spot on, Gus. I didn't need the additional clue that the station is in Scotland. In case people wonder, John Cleland wrote "Fanny Hill" way back in the 18th century and it is considered to be the first novel of its kind.

Further hint: this station (more-than-one-word name) is in an area also served by another, open, station which shares one of the words in its name. And, it's nothing to do with Poirot...

Correct -- Miss Marple, residing in the hills (highland-dwelling), rose from her bed after night's sleep. Your floor.

Correct indeed -- your floor.

Refers to the kakapo or New Zealand flightless night parrot -- one of my very favourite creatures, and a species which Mr. Darwin would most definitely reckon appropriate for the chop. Hoping that the link will work --

I'm afraid I'm getting absolutely nowhere with this one -- maybe taking the wrong approach...
