Is the Cumbria round robin ticket via from windermere?
Oxenholme-windermere branch is not shown on the map on the Northern Leaflet.

however if I put Windermere to Ravenglass into the National Rail enquiries journey planner, the results for a journey via lancaster is suggests the central lakes day ranger and if going via Carlisle it says the cheapest fare is the Cumbria round Robin £29.50 so NRE obviously thinks it is valid.

    Thanks.

Not valid on the Windermere branch. You can't double back on yourself on the round robin, which would make a return trip to Windermere a bit difficult!

Is it possible (or advisable) to purchase this ticket on a Sunday? No services running between Whitehaven and Barrow would make a circular route impossible.

    Possible? Yes. Advisable? Probably not.
