No doubt anyone who has Traveled on the West Midland Metro would have noticed the flag ship of there fleet " The blue Tram " well it now has has name Cyrille Regis

Tram 31 started out like any other Tram after arriving at the Metro depot on 14th October 2014
from CAF in Spain after Testing it was pressed into service on 29th January 2015

It was taken out of service for the fitting of batteries and re entered service on 5th July 2018
still in White and pink .

After being taken out of service again it reemerged again on the 16th July 2018
but this time in the new "West Midlands Metro " two tone blue livery.

Tram 31s last day in old blue was Wednesday 16th January and again was taken of service and a re vamp to
its livery .

Yesterday the 18th January Tram 31 was named "Cyrille Regis "at the Metro depot in Wednesbury
by the Regis Family and will now be running past the Hawthorns stop on a regular basis.

Obviously Manchester used to have a big thing about naming trams - I completely forget if it carried onto the new ones, I half recall it didn't? Really good idea, though. More local public transport operations should name their vehicles after important local characters, and I also really like the Voyager scheme.

The naming of Cyrille Regis is a fitting tribute to a fine man and excellent footballer. I hope if Preston ever gets trams again that one might be given the name of Tom Finney.

No names on the M5000s, no.

I always enjoyed seeing 1015 "Sparky" as a child.

Aston Villa could be represented by Peter Withe, who scored the only goal of the game in the 1982 European Cup Final against Bayern Munich. An alternative would be Nigel Spink, who was the very first goalie to make his first team debut after coming on as a substitute in a European Cup Final.

This was back in the days when teams won the European Cup the proper way i.e. the pre-requisite to participate in that tournament was that you had to win the top flight division the previous season. None of this nonsense today of finishing runners up, third, or fourth.

EDIT: I have just noticed that the last 2 digits of this post is 82. A very strange coincidence.

A lovely tribute, fantastic footballer.

I've seen you repeat this so many times now that you surely have it saved somewhere for easy copy/paste?

Great tribute to a fantastic footballer. Scored the goal of the season in 1981-1982 against my team Norwich City
