From the Network Rail website. For those of you that don't know Shrewsbury, the Dana footbridge resembles a very long railway footbridge which, although it spans the entire station site, is not actually connected to the station. I think the railway company was required to build it to maintain a historic right of way.

Dana footbridge reopened as Network Rail completes latest phase of refurbishment work at historic Shrewsbury station
Shrewsbury residents and station users have been thanked for their patience as the latest phase of refurbishment work at the historic Shrewsbury station is completed.

Dana footbridge, which was closed last December for essential refurbishment work, was reopened today (Friday). Engineers completed extensive steel work repairs on the structure as well as repairing and replacing timber panels and supporting beans and brick work. Windows were also replaced on the grade II listed footbridge and the deck walkway has been renewed with an anti-slip surface and the structure has been repainted.

Network Rail teams have also been carrying out refurbishment work to the station canopies over platforms 4, 5, 6 and 7. Some final minor finishing works to the canopies will be completed in the coming weeks. The canopy work was part-funded by the Railway Heritage Trust.

Chris Wildy, works delivery manager for Network Rail, Wales and Borders said:
“We are delighted to have completed this work at Shrewsbury station which sees the historic station refreshed for the benefit of passengers and the local community.

“The station canopies and Dana footbridge are listed, so we worked very closely with our partners including Shropshire Council on our restoration plans, as we understand these structures are part of the historic fabric of the station.

“We would like to thank the local community, passengers and station staff for their patience and support while we completed this work.”

Colin Lea, customer experience director for Transport for Wales, added:
Shrewsbury is such a vital part of our network linking several different routes, while the station itself really is a beautiful, historic structure that we all want to see back to its best.

“This upgrade work by Network Rail follows a number of successful projects at Shrewsbury Station over recent years by a variety of partners and it’s great to see it getting so much focus.”

I shall have a look tomorrow! It'll be nice to see the Dana freshly painted, at least a few weeks before the graffiti, burn marks and half-eaten kebabs reappear.

Shrewsbury station has been freshened up nicely with the recent refurbishments. But I do wish we had a permanent staff to maintain it all though - I suspect that it will all end up rotting away again in a few years. The river bridge, given a structural repaint 2 or 3 years ago, is looking grubby again as the algae comes back. Must be very depressing for the people who have to work there.

Another planet...
With a name like that it's a shame it doesn't stretch a bit further and over the border into Wales, as that would make it the Dana International footbridge!

A nice footbridge that, I remember being quite surprised when I "discovered" it by chance!

Just walked over the Dana footbridge tonight. Less than a week after reopening, someone has already daubed the fresh new surfaces with graffiti tags in black paint, and someone else has scratched the woodwork with a screwdriver or similar. Only a small amount of litter so far, although the used condoms have reappeared.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I like the fact that they have reused the knackered 2D fluorescent light fittings and to add that extra bit of class to a supposed Grade II listed bridge slapped a nice bit of galvanised trunking along the side.

I noticed that, but I wasn't going to say. It's like that big pile of gravel that has been used to fill the hole in Platform 3. I think it's what's called value engineering.
