What's happening to them then? Surely not scrap?

How come two 66's in the convoy as well, top and tail?

Few scrapyards in Rotherham and if they were to be overhauled/used for parts it would be at Toton you'd imagine, so it looks likely. What a shame if so.

I would hope not as 60100 is earmarked a place in the National Collection! So scrap seems unlikely.

wnxx.com has this to say on the matter:
60044 60096 and 60100 (all WNTS) at Toton have been assigned for movement to St Blazey for further secure storage. Some of the sidings in Toton Yard are going over to Network Rail for stabling the HOBC train and a number of stored Class 60s are in the way.

So no, not scrap, it is as fgwrich says.

Seems that there is a batch of Demic Class 60s set to be moved from Toton - Where they are having a clearout to make space for the NR HOBC, to St Blazey where it seems theres enough space for dumping locos / rolling stock, presumably since the spare stored Clay tanks have been removed.

Wonder where abouts in Rotherham they're gonna be stored?

They are not at Rotherham any more; 60049 is showing at Doncaster TMD and 60044/100 are DIT on 6V49 heading towards Alexandra Dock Jn (Newport) from where they will no doubt be tripped to St. Blazey on something heading in that direction.

60044 and 100 are not demic. Apparently both are repairable, albeit high hour loco's - I've seen a post somewhere on WNXX suggesting 044 just needs a new start motor and traction motor repairs but has over 19000 hours on the clock. 100 has just under 18000 hours, so if you were going to repair either of them it would be 100 that's more feasible - however, they're both just purely for storage.

With that many engine hours it is possible that Network Rail won't allow them to operate on the main line until they have been overhauled. I seem to remember a few years ago that EWS had to decide whether to overhaul or withdraw any class 37, 56 or 58 which reached a certain number of engine hours.

I don't understand the difference between running under it's own power or being hauled dead in train though in terms of possible defects due to high engine hours.

I mean, yeah it's inconvenient if a traction related failure causes it to block a main line, but if there's a problem with the bogies/wheels which could lead do a derailment or similar incident, this could still happen.

Never understood this for new loco deliveries either. They always get 'collected' and then dragged by another loco.
