Evening. Have just returned from a trip from the Sussex coast up to Mallaig and back using the Caledonian Sleeper. My son had been desperate to do the trip and it was really good. Journey up was fine - it was the return where we incurred a delay due to the torrential rain up north earlier today.

We purchased the sleeper tickets some time back (Euston > Fort William) through the Caledonian Sleeper website - seated OUT and berth RTN. As soon as Southern released Advance tickets we purchased them from our home station to Victoria. We wanted to go up to Mallaig but decided to wait until the day and buy them depending on the weather. So the return journey was, arguably, from Mallaig to Fort William (with tickets bought yesterday), used the Sleeper Lounge and then took the Sleeper down to Euston, arriving 58 minutes late. Because the sleeper was late we missed our booked train for the Advance ticket back home but Southern were fine letting us on the next available train which was in itself was 7 minutes late (but because we were on the later train we arrived 42 minutes late).

So is that one journey despite the tickets being bought at very different times from three different TOCs and is there an issue with us making our own way between Euston and Victoria an issue? (It was cheaper to do that because the Advances up to Victoria were really good value.)

My thought was to issue a Delay Repay claim to Caledonian Sleeper for a 50% refund for the whole Mallaig to Sussex Coast journey.

Providing you allowed sufficient interchange time between London Euston and London Victoria, then yes it is all one journey, with the same contractual and consumer rights as a passenger holding a through Advance for the same trains.
