I was having a little look around RealTimeTrains, when I stumbled upon this service, which seems to run every day this Monday to Friday. Is there a reason for this?

Been beaten to it.
There is a longstanding tradition of a summer holiday extra on this route, historically using stock that would have been running ECS to Ramsgate anyway (can't access WTT just now to check, I'm going back a generation). Interesting that there are two workings this year from the Catford Loop, don't recall that before.
