I'm planning a weekend away for me and my fiancee in July.

The only major issue we got is we both working the day we want to travel me in sheffield and her in derby. We will be returning to the same place we started. Trying to keep cost down as much as possible.

My fiancee can be on a train after half 5 Friday 20th july I need to connect with this travelling back late sunday 22nd july.

Thanks in advance for help

You will be able to book Advance tickets in approximately 3 to 4 weeks' time.

Derby - Edinburgh will require an XC Advance ticket.

Sheffield - Edinburgh has XC or EC options. EC are more likely to be reasonably priced, but would require a change of trains at somewhere like Doncaster.

If you got Sheffield - Edinburgh EC tickets, then she could get an Off Peak Return from Derby to Sheffield (£18.80), to connect.

Sign up for an EC ticket alert here:

It is likely to be around 26 April that the reservations for your outward journey are released, and 3rd May when reservations for your return journey are released. You are, therefore, likely to get 2 emails.

You can see the booking horizons for all TOCs here:
