Hello everyone,

We wanted to make you aware that the DfT have directly confirmed to us that the new flexi-season tickets introduced yesterday will not be available for any passengers making journeys within the London travel zones 1-6.

The reason they give for why is because of the availability of Oyster and Contactless payments.

We wanted to make as many people aware of this as possible as we think the messaging so far has not very clear. Hopefully by flagging this with you all we are able to get the message out a bit further.

You can see the Tweet we posted on it this afternoon here: https://twitter.com/LonTravelWatch/status/1407354422540312592
Just to put it beyond any doubt, we've just had it confirmed from @transportgovuk that the new flexi-season tickets are not available for journeys inside of London due to the availability of Oyster card and Contactless payments: @BBCTomEdwards
Many thanks,

Luke

Seems reasonable, as using Oyster and contactless day singles and caps are not set at "penalty" rates in the manner that they are on other parts of the network.

That doesn't make any sense since Contactless will cap at the weekly Travelcard price, which is more expensive than a point-to-point weekly season, whereas the whole point of the flexi-seasons is to be cheaper than a weekly season. It's quite a niche usage scenario though.

All of the daily caps within London have been set as one fifth of the weekly cap so I don't see the issue with not offering the Flexi-Season in the zones.

However, that assumes people travel into Zone 1, which clearly might not be the case for the remaining point to point flows.
