As to what what said I wasn't there ...... however we are not encouraged to delay trains to remove fare evaders as the delay costs ALWAYS outweigh the ticket value. However other customer pressure can sometimes be very useful!
This is something I pondered the other day when seeing a train delayed whilst the BTP attending a travel irregularity causing a train to be delayed. If a prosecution was to arise in these circumstances, would the TOC be able to claim the cost of the delay minutes caused dealing with the issue as compensation in addition to the fare outstanding?

On the naughty step again.
It's an interesting insight how we've become conditioned to speak in the negative nowadays. Five years ago the original question would have been, "Did this Senior Conductor act appropriately"? Now it's been turned around to ask about inappropriate behaviour which tips the balance to meaning that the person is somewhat guilty of whatever the misdemeanour is supposed to be before being judged.

Or indeed, "How do you think this Senior Conductor acted?" to remove all positive or negative bias from the question.

Clagmonster - I don't think that TOCs or Network Rail claim back delay minutes from offenders (not just fare evasion delays but also trespass, vandalism or bridge strikes(? on the last one!)). Usually the scrotes have no assets or income so charging them a few Grand is usually a waste of time.
