The Great Central Railway (Nottingham) based in Ruddington will be running the full 9 miles from the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre to Loughborough (High Level) via 50 Steps Bridge and Rushcliffe Halt this Sunday on the 9th July 2006.
D7629, recently back into service after an overhaul will be running the services along with I presume the Vacuum set, due to the hot weather, although the GatEx set may be used instead.
Timetable for Sunday 9th July
Ruddington (dep): 11:30, 13:30, 15:30
Rushcliffe Halt (out): 12:00, 14:00, 16:00
Loughborough* (rev): 12:16, 14:16, 16:16
Rushcliffe Halt (ret): 12:45, 14:45, 16:45
Ruddington (arr): 13:15, 15:15, 17:15
*There are no passenger facilities at Loughborough (High Level)
This is an excellent chance to see the south part of the line which inludes Barnstone Tunnel, East Leake Platform, Stanford Viaduct and excellent views of Brush works.
The NTHC has an impressive collection of buses, Ruston shunters,
Simplex shunters, Class 25 D7629, Class 47 47765 and class 56 56097,
as well as industrial steam locomotives.
Getting here from Nottingham
If your popping down to the GCRN from Nottingham the best idea is to hop onto a Nottingham City Transport Number 10 bus to Ruddington (every 10 mins), or the TrentBarton Ruddington Connection (every 30 mins).
Getting here from Loughborough
Nottingham City Transport run the Number 1 bus service from Loughborough to Nottingham that serves the station of Rushcliffe Halt enroute, so if your heading up from Loughborough the best idea is to ride this bus to Rushcliffe Halt.
