Greetings,

Heard on the 'grapevine' that there may be a direct route from Bridlington to York in the pipeline. Wondered if this is just speculation or in planning?

I hope its not speculation, although this thread may be better in the 'Speculative Ideas' so we can speculate on the route considering that if it is true, nobody will likely know the route yet.

There was one pre-COVID established in December of last year that ran pretty much hourly throughout most of the day.

Unless you mean something completely different entirely.

Isn't there currently still one "direct" working in the opposite direction, from Bridlington to York, Mon-Sat, 0854 departure.

Yeah, comes from Scarborough. Would be rather a slog if you were actually intending to travel between Scarborough and York mind.

So, other than roundabout "direct" services between York and Bridlington, via Hull or Scarborough, is the OP hinting at some crayonista reinstatement of long lifted track via Market Weighton?

There was an hourly Bridlington to York service in the last timetable. With Covid only the hourly Sheffield service remains with one York train at 0854. From December some of the York trains are reinstated to provided extra capacity in the peak from 1600. I would imagine more of the York service will re-appear in the May timetable if all goes well.
I'm still waiting for the best use of the dynamic loop between Filey and Hunmanby. December is better but the timings are still likely to give unnecessary delays at Hunmanby.

That is exactly what I would speculate!

Without speculating too much it would be silly not to reinstate the line to Selby as well.

There is a campaign group seeking to restore the direct line between York and Beverley via Market Weighton.

I understand that Northern was going to be operating the additional York-Scarborough service.

If this is about reinstatement of lines via Market Weighton, should this thread not be in the 'Speculative Ideas' sub forum?

Tough to say. It is a question about a route which could be a new line or a service on existing infrastructure.

The service appears to exist so it isn’t speculative

Reinstating Bev - York makes sense, it should never have been closed especially given the innovations BR put in to try and keep it open. Driffield - MW isn't worth it - looking at the 1958 timetable on disused stations it had 3 trains a day. This is reflected in today's bus services where the Brid - York service is far less frequent than the Hull - Bev - York.
