Trains between Uckfield and Crowborough have been suspended since first thing this morning because of a broken down train at Buxted.

Does anyone know whats wrong with the failed train ? As its been over 7 hours since it was first posted on NRE and that does seem like a long time to clear a failed train.

The 07:21 from Crowborough appeared this morning going up the down track having not made it through to Buxted due to the earlier failure. Once on it we were told that the train at Buxted had a brake problem.

Still seems that the failed train was in Buxted for a long time.

Train failures of this diesel stock appear to be more frequent these days. It was only just before Easter that the 18:08 ex London Bridge only made it as far as New Cross Gate due to a train failure. Whatever the failure was it prevented the doors from opening as well!

Or - less expensively, had the Uckfield - Lewes link existed, passengers could have reached Uckfield from the South via BML1.

Whether true or not I heard that the emergency brake activated on the train in the Buxted area bringing it to a halt. Once activated the onboard train crew couldnt release it, and those on it were there for some time.

That seems a similar incident to one where the 18.08 from ondon Bridge came to an abrupt halt just outside New Cross Gate before Easter. Once they got the train into New Cross Gate they couldnt open the doors to let us off as the train was taken out of service.

Then on Tuesday this week the 7.21 ex Crowborough and the 18.08 ex London Bridge were short formed due to defective stock. Apparently a train failed on Monday night between Oxted and East Croydon. DOnt know if it was a diesel or electic unit. But does make one wonder if all incidents linked.
