Quite a few problems across the shop today -

The big one is of course on the ECML with signalling problems at Harringay, which (according to NRE) has no services in and out of Kings Cross (also says East Coast are starting/terminating at Finsbury Park with no FCC to and from Kings Cross. Also doesnt help that the Victoria Line is entirely suspended due to engineering works.

The Merseyrail Northern Line has been entirely suspended due to a lineside fire at Bank Hall - includes services to Ormskirk and Kirkby. Network Rail on twitter have said that it is due to a substation fire, Merseyrail website also is saying that Moorfields station is shut due to a power failure and that the Wirral Line has 10 minute delays due to "the earlier suspension of traction current).

Southeastern also had problems earlier due to a boat hitting the bridge over the Thames affecting services to and from Charing Cross, but services are now getting back to normal.

Also a signalling problem at St Budeaux Victoria Road (Plymouth - Gunnislake) and animals on the line at Craven Arms (Shrewsbury - Hereford).

As a point of interest, they are saying "A replacement bus service will not be provided" for the Merseyrail services... is there no obligation to provide some sort of service? Getting to Kirkby is fairly easy on Sundays by bus but there isn't a service to Ormskirk at all so they are virtually cut off!

And the NRE service indicator said "Minor delays on some routes" when the entire Northern Line was out of action!
At least they have restored Hunts Cross-Moorfields now.

Out and about on the motorbike today I was held at Mobberly level crossing for an non-stopping ATW 3-coach 175. I assume it was either a Manchester - North Wales coast service diverted from its Warrington route, or a Manchester - South Wales diversion from its Wilmslow route.

So the curse of Sundays strikes the ECML once again!!

Doesn't look like the coasting issues that plagued it before though, just looks like signal issues.

Just checked NR site and some services running into KGX up to 3 hours late! Ouch!

Chester (not rhrough from Llandudno on Sundays) to Manchester Picc diverted. Regular occurrence and late night and early morning trains booked that way.

The 365s seem to have their panties up in both directions around Cambridge Junction so it seems they might have given up on having the adjacent 'reversed' line unpowered when two others are being worked on? Also seen a 317 pass in both directions, which lends support to this theory given that 317s supposedly weren't allowed to coast at all.

If this is the case, they might have hoped that this decision would give them a nice quiet Sunday with no problems - no chance!!

It does make me wonder though - if it was possible to carry out this fortnightly track replacement work without the need for 'coasting' trains, why didn't they do it this way before?
