Double-tracking of the Aberdeen -Inverurie section continues and is getting near completion.
At Thainstone, to the south of Inverurie. A plant was built for storing equipment etc for the work. Here by an abandoned over bridge you can see track and lineside clearance being made ready for relaying of the new Up main.

Photos taken on the 15th of April 2019.

A new over bridge has been built on the south side of the old bridge.

There is an Aberdeen to Inverness Upgrade thread. Perhaps a moderator can move these excellent pictures to there

What are the rails in the middle of the track? I see it quite often and just assume it's a convenient place to store spare rail.

In this case it’s probably the new rail for the additional track. It’s the easiest place to deliver it using a long welded rail delivery train. Once the new sleepers are in put place they’ll use road rail machines to lift the rails across onto the new sleepers.
