Dry to Wet

Just wondering how do you change the 23:00 Maybank-Hammerwhich HST to wet weather. Is there one code which does the whole route or do you have to do it every 25m. I'm not a royte developer so this is going into uncharted waters.

You need to use the .Beacon 21;0;0;70, command right at the beginning of the route, however, if you want ultimate realism, and want to stop rain when in tunnels like in real life, you must use .Beacon 21;0;0;0, to stop rain.

For example, you would place he .Beacon 21;0;0;0, command at the entrance to a tunnel (to stop rain), and .Beacon 21;0;0;70, as you leave the tunnel, to start the rain again.

Easy really, but takes while if you want to make it realistic.

How do you know when a tunnel starts? Chances are I'll give it a go tommorow or Monday, depending on what mood my little sister is

I can't find the command anywhere other than Maybank station. I stoped when I got to Blackford because the must be a command to stop it in the tunnel after Maybank and mid way between Maybank and Blackford

Nutter, load Maybank in BVE4, and switch to developer mode. Then, use the viewer mode where you are not in the train cab, and use the up/down/left/right arrows to navigate around. Press up until you get to a tunnel, then look in the bottom left hand corner, and look at the X coordinate (it may say 1000.000) This is the distance you have traveled in metres. If you open the routefile, and find the 1000, metre mark in the route code, there would normally be a .wall (to start the tunnel walls! ). If not, just use the command I told you above to stop the rain.

It's also helpful if you run BVE4 in windowed mode as you can then view the route code at the same time. As well as the rain beacon, you should find .brightness and .fog commands at the start and end of tunnels.

Tony has put in a lot of effort into the rainy routes and a few of the features worth copying in your own are:

- reduced adhesion in places
- reduced ambient and directional light at the start of the route
- reduced .brightness settings in the outside parts of the route, reduced further in heavy rain
- .fog to represent rain (look carefully at how the fog settings change in the tunnels as well - it's different in rainy routes)
- rain stops briefly under bridges and canopies

I've fixed it now, it's because I used Exel. It is satisfying though. IF I can fit learning how to code into my time then I'll give hand codeing a go, I can't get my head around route builder.

I'm not making any promises but you might just have a budding route author here
