Good evening,

Would it be possible for someone to send/PM me the DTG reactions software? I have tried the links throughout this forum, but I've no clue what the password etc is for the website.

Many thanks in advance!

Long time lurker.... like the post above, I would appreciate it if someone could kindly send a link or pm the dtg tool, as the link found on another thread asks for a user name and password
Thank you

The practice tool is a top tool, forget Bop It, this is much closer to the real thing, and is a damn site harder!

Thanks for the DTG programme. I have tried it today, the first 2.5 mins is very fast, 2.5 - 4 mins is quite easy and 4-5 mins goes crazy again. Isthis exactly how it is going to be on the day?

Im not to sure how fast the real thing is but i heard this one if faster so hopefully if you master this it should be a doddle. Who are you doing yours with casey jones? Got mine on monday for greater anglia

That's a pretty good approximation. The practice test reaches a silly speed, which is near impossible to keep up with.
The real DTG does get quick, and it may catch you out. Just pause a second, then start again. Better to miss one or two than try to chase a lost cause.
If you can show good recovery from a mistake or a missed colour, you should be ok. The test goes on for a long time, so make sure you're comfortable, especially on the footpedals.

i dont think you could master the training one, it is much too fast. I findit strange how it starts off really fast then goes to a reasonable speed then speeds up again.
Starting off so fast at the beginning cannot be realistic, can it?

It's not a doddle as like anything practicing in your own home does not add the element of being at an assessment centre thinking in your mind you have to get this done correctly.

Daft question, but it does not mention what keys you use for the colour or the high low pitch. Could anyone tell me what they are using please as it does not seem to say?

Cheers

There is no feedback to or from the computer.

You just have to guage your own performance.

I don't know if it's just me but I can't really differentiate the tone from Hi or LO - there seems to be no difference to me!

That will be quite a concern for you if that is the case, you should be able to hear a difference and the sounds on the tool are very similar to if not the same as those in the assessment. Have you tried the whole test a few times?

I have done the practice test many times and am pretty comfortable with it now (untill it reaches past 600!). But yes that had been a problem. With you confirming it was my problem and not the programmes, I tried running it with my headphones in - can here the difference clear as day now! Clearly something amiss with my laptop speakers...

That's a relief...

Print out the PDF, the buttons are on there. You have to go through the motions of tapping on the printout.

I don't think I am making myself clear sorry, what keyboard keys on your PC are you using to do the test? For example if a low pitch sounds and a yellow screen displays what keys are you pressing.

Just realised as I am writing this that there are no keys are there! it's purely a practice tool with no feedback or keys! Can anyone tell me in the real test what side left or right would the high low pedals be on? High on the right and low on the left?

Thanks guys

John

Hi John

The keyboard layout in the test is as the printout with the practice tool. It should help you become familiar with the layout at the assessment.

Hi, the program does not take keyboard inputs (if its the same as the one i had). If I recall correctly there is a PDF in the zip file which you can print out, which has a layout mimic of the actual keyboard you will use on the day.

Hope that helps,

Ian

You're right that the program is passive. It takes no input, and offers no feedback.

As for the sounds, the printout will show the "sound" buttons as HI and LO to correspond to the relevant tone pitch. The pedals are nothing to do with the tones, you use the peddles to respond to the yellow squares you see on screen. Yellow square appears on the left - stamp your left foot; on the right - stamp your right foot!

The on-screen coloured circles directly correspond to the coloured buttons on the printout. Red circle appears on-screen - "press" the red button; blue circle - "press" the blue button... And so on.

I have passed the DTG test very recently. I personally thought the sounds were quite different to the practice tool. The practice tool sounds mellow, like a square wave or woodwind instrument.

The low tone on the real test sounded very raucous and buzzy. A bit like the warning for low air pressure on a retro seventies bus.

Ha! I had the same thing when I did mine, both tones. Threw me, I must admit.

The sounds were loud. Before you put the headphones on, you can hear the sounds from the headset of the other candidate. Different shades of colours too, darker on some.
