We are on another HST bash today from Leeds to Aberdeen using The Mirror tokens.

The mystery is that this morning the 07:10 from Leeds arrived here in Aberdeen 7mins early and performed perfectly.

However this same train is now running 38mins late as the 14:50 from Aberdeen to Kings Cross, it seems to have developed a fault before leaving here which has me puzzled.

Could it be something like one engine was shut down here and has failed to restart and they are taking it to Edinburgh on one power car in the hope the fitters might be able to get it going again? Just wondering if HST's can be prone to something like that or not.

*Btw we are not on the late running train, we are waiting for the 18:16 that gets back to Leeds at silly o'clock

It says it's a train fault, bizarrely, it also had its stop at Inverkeithing cancelled.

It's currently 39 down between Portobello Jn and Monktonhall Jn

Train now terminated at Newcastle due to “safety checks performed earlier” according to EC site.

It is most likely nothing to do with something that happened near Thirsk but we were in coach B and there was a noise underneath the train like there had been something that had hit the underside of the coach.

Only info I can find is the same - might have been sent to Heaton to have a look at it.

That suggests the front power car has failed
Worked a few under InterCity and that was the request made between Dundee and Edinburgh, to avoid the climb out of Inverkeithing from a standing start and causing any further delay

There probably wasn't a spare power car or set at Craigentinny, so was going to proceed to Newcastle
Swapping at Newcastle is not that easy now, usual procedure seems to be some excuse and to then take the set to Heaton for a power car swap or repair

Just passed Heaton at speed so not easy to make things out. There was an East Coast HST parked up there in the sidings with the rear power car missing.

Meanwhile in Newcastle station there is a failed Mallard on platform 4 that's been dragged back from Durham.
